Cat Diarrhea

One of our four cats has had diarrhea (watery!) for over a month now.  The Vet has seen her, and has prescribed a medicine to firm it up.  It isn't working!  We are on the second round of the medication.  She also gave us a wormer and told us to sprinkle Metamucil on her food.  She won't eat the food we sprinkle the wormer or Metamucil on.  We have four cats!  Doing anything with food is a problem.  I even tried using people tuna... she won't eat more than a bite.  I am concerned for Cookie, and for the other three cats (who seem to be doing okay so far).  There even appears to be blood in the diarrhea (pink tinges) sometimes.  The Vet says that is normal.  NORMAL!!!!  We have always trusted this Vet.  I don't know why she doesn't seem to be more concerned - enough to try something else?  Is there something I can do to help Cookie?  (We tried coconut macaroons - she won't eat them,)  Thanks for your help!

Thank you again for sharing!  I will visit this site frequently!  We have had six cats in the last 20 years, five at one time.  Now we have four.  Amber is 20, with really no health problems. She is slowing down, though.  We lost 17 year old Inky almost two years ago.  Her kidneys started to fail.  We did subcutaneous hydration for a little more than a year, every day.  She tolerated it fine, and we had her for another good year because of it.  We had to call the Vet in and had to say goodbye when she stopped eating and drinking.  I couldn't watch her suffer any longer.  She was my baby, and I still miss her. We lost Max to thyroid disease and bad surgery.  I blame the Vet, and we don't go there anymore.  Onyx, Missy and Cookie live with us and Amber.  Cookie is the one with diarrhea.  Missy vomits all the time, and long-term antibiotics are helping her - but I'm thinking Pet Flora may be an answer to her problem too.  Thanks again!!  Sorry I'm rambling here!  I really appreciate your help and this site!

Oh Roberta I am so sorry to read of your failing kitty how hard that is to watch your beloved companion die before your eyes, he is in good loving hands and he loves you back for all the care.
I too nursed my beloved Opus for 3 years with heart disease/high BP, he went thru a few times of dehydration....I fed him pedilyte by syringe every 2-3 hrs, not easy as I was working at the time and had to keep taking a break and running home..
Than at 17 I watched him slowly becoming very weak the last 2 days he wouldn't even eat his favorites and I had to lift him in and out of his litter box, so I knew it was his time and asked our Vet to come over to the house and put him to sleep, Oh God how I prayed he'd just go in his sleep so I wouldn't have had to make that decision...but it wasn't to be and it was darn near the hardest thing I've ever had to do!!
I do hope your little guy continues to improve and have some good quality time left with you, its so darn hard to say goodbye. bless you both.

I'm happy to be of assistance!  I hope it works!  They ship pretty fast (from VA or WVA I think).  I just happened to see your post because I am dealing with a 20 year old male who developed renal insufficiency about a month after his companion passed away after having that diagnosis since 2007.  He never showed any signs before that!  He stopped eating; I tried to keep him hydrated, but had to go to vet for IV therapy for 48 hours.  When his numbers did not improve much, they recommended euthanasia.  We decided to bring him home, put him on SubQ therapy and try to rehab him.  He was very weak from the 48 hr immobilization, but mobility has improved quite a bit.  I am still force feeding him, plus he is on homeopathic Detoxoside and Tripsy.  He actually ate some of his own K/D kibble yesterday!

The Pet Flora can be given as a capsule or opened and added to whatever the cat will eat.  I neglected to mention that "Nani" is on a raw food diet now and thriving.

I hope that gives kitty some relief!! I too had a cat with constant diarrhea and could find no answers, now that she is gone I believe from reading it was probably IBS. Prettykitty1 has posted about this and her cat needing to be on a raw food diet.....the one cat I have now has food allergies and I've tried giving the raw diet and he wouldn't eat it, he also won't eat any of the commercial foods that he should be on!!
And most cats won't eat their food if anything foreign is added, I know mine sure wouldn't!
good luck with the Pet Flora, tell me Roberta is this added to the food or given in tablet form?
keep posting and let us know how kitty is doing ok!

Check out Pet Flora at Vitality Science.  My daughter has a sphinx cat that had the same problem and it has cleared it up immediately.  She keeps her on it, but it might not be necessary after Cookie stabilizes.  They have a variety of other products that, once she is better, could be used.  VitalityScience.com (I think).
