Teia the Huntress

Last night I heard a scrambling sound coming from the kitchen.  Got up to see...

Miss Teia was chasing a mouse, which eventually escaped back under the dishwasher, while Teia was still looking under the armchair in the opposite corner.

After a few minutes, she followed her nose and lay down in front of the machine.

Did not see a mousie corpse this AM.  You could see from her movements that this was a Close Encounter of the First Time.

I bet that's actually cute to watch these two keeping a watch out for mice.

Got some new traps...

However, last night and tonight, Missy T was joined in her vigil by her buddy Hildiekattt. :)

Cool!  It's pretty cute when they do that.

Good on Teia!  She is acting the way a cat is supposed to act when there are mice present.  It actually sounds kind of cute.  She has come out of her shell and has come a long way since you rescued her.

It sounds like you need to find out where the mice are getting into the house and find their nest or their mouse colony.  It sounds like you need to seal up their entrance into the house.  You don't want the few to become an infestation.

Good reason why Teia has been watching the dishwasher so well.  Got another mouse last night with a second trap.  Got a couple new traps, as she's took up her watch post again earlier today after mousie 2 went bye-bye.

Hildie will occasionally do the meerkat pose, too. :)

I made Akira some crocheted "rats".  The newest pictures show the picture of the blue one.  She loves these things because she can be as rough as she wants to be without me telling her to "be gentle" or "no bite" or "be nice".

Mistype "this and the one in rubber..." All the others are ignored

What about a new artificial mouse?
Loreena enjoyed a very ugly gray one that 'walks" (more exactly "jumps' like  frog) due a manual pump :-)
This is the one in rubber are the only ones she care about... as the others are ignored

She still spends at least a hour in front of the dishwasher each evening, intently monitoring the situation. :)

Good deal getting the mouse before it can cause damage--or bring more mice.  Even though Teia didn't get to catch it, at least she "told you" about the mouse.

Well, I set a mouse trap (one of the fully enclosed, spring loaded sorts that kills the mouse almost instantly), which got the mouse.

Anita and I have observed that Missy T spends a couple of hours each night in front of the dishwasher now.  In fact, she's guarding the houe at her post as I type.

Way to go Teia!  I bet she had a lot of fun.

My Akira goes on like that whenever we spot a house spider.  Those things get huge!  We don't get dangerous spiders where I live, so I'm comfortable letting Akira just go for it with those creepy things.  She ate the first one she caught.  It was about the size of an adult mouse, so I take it that it was probably a female of the species.  I know it was her first spider, because she hasn't tried to eat any more of them.  I take it that she wasn't impressed with the taste of spider.  She loves chasing and killing them, though.  And, I figure she can use the exercise.

LOL She probably had a field day w/ that mousie!!

Have you ever let lightning bugs or moths in the house for your cats?  My mom's cats love it!  I have gotten fussed at for letting in too many insects, though.  LOL

In many ways, Teia is still a big kitten discovering the world and what it contains, still learning how to use her own body...she's definitely a personality and a half.  I am so glad we gave her the chance.

Isn't that ever hilarious to have the privilege to watch a kitty with her first encounter....I can only imagine how her little heart was in over drive..and dreaming of the one that got away all night:))
Perhaps a Fathers Day gift is in the works for today???....
