I spoke too soon. Although it has been many years later Pooba got another one UTI this past month but we got meds (liquid so we can add to his food) and he is better now We added a powder cranberry to his diet. Hopefully it keeps it away. I have to take him "pee" again but at least he goes by himself to sometimes. He is just getting back to his box full time as he was making mistakes but we had to be patient knowing this is because he was sick. He is eating Wellness wet and dry but I had to confess I was sharing my blueberry muffin with him every Saturday for the past several months and also giving him some swiss cheese. We will cut these out. He may agree as he doesn't even ask for cheese anymore!
I have a cat who had a urinary tract infection many years ago and this sounds like the same. The cats may also decide to pee elsewhere to show you. (or they may be afraid of their box since they relate it to pain). Pooba ended up totally blocked and to unblock was $1,000!! I agree with others that the vet needs a sample and some meds issued before it get's worse. Pooba was then fine. He had a huge fear of his box (due to the pain he related to it) but I was fortunate he would go if I went with him an watched! (yes, for SEVERAL years later I had to "take" him pee but it worked!) WE do many crazy things for our pets. He finally goes all by himself again. Pooba was put on a higher quality food (we use Wellness) and he has been perfect ever since. I had a past cat with the same thing so I am dead set on better food. I hope kitty is well soon.
Hi, all of those multiple visits to the litter box tells with the small amounts of urine most of the time tells me that he may be in danger of developing a urinary blockage. Now, if he had gone multiple times to the litter box and made big spots of urine I would be worried about diabetes/kidney issues.
It is very very important for the vet to get a sample of urine to test. They can get a sample directly from the bladder. Please take him back to the vet ASAP to get this done. In the mean time, watch him like a hawk to make sure that when he goes something is coming out each time. If ever he goes to the box and nothing comes out, it will be an emergency meaning he could be blocked with urine crystals and unable to empty his bladder.
Hi so I think my cat is messing with me because he peed fine and normal for 2 days and so far this morning his gone in the litter box about 6 times in less than an hour :(
Andy, at least kidney function can be tested, it's a blood draw, not a pee catch. See if the vet will do that. I'd frankly be more worried about tennis-ball size than about avocado-pit size.
They do have two different litter boxes. It's just the clump size that is worrying me because they were so big like tennis balls almost and now there are multiple ones the size of a avocado seed. I've been looking things up online and I think that has made me even more anxious because I'm terrified his kidneys might be the problem :( thanks for responding
Hi Andy,
I agree with AnnieBrooke. Try getting a urine sample--Ugh! not easy . I must have followed my cat for days trying to catch her peeing. She was becoming paranoid, but I think I was just too obvious. The box with the little black beads went with me every time I saw her go into her box room.
She kept looking at me as if to say " Really???? WTH is your problem"
The new kitten can cause stress. Cats Hate change. That just will take some time until they get used to each other. Try and keep separate litter boxes and if possible keep them separated so they can gradually get accustomed to each other. Each should. have their own room for a while with food, water, box and toys
Stay in touch with your vet if anything changes. You have done the right thing by consulting with him.
Good Luck,
CML
Since he's so young, I would tend not to suspect diabetes, but have to mention that when my (old) kitty began peeing and peeing, it was for that reason. I would guess that it would help (it certainly can't hurt) to give each kitty his or her own litter box in a separate place. And don't stop trying to get a urine sample to the vet.
You could also ask the vet to do a basic blood profile to check the functioning of his kidneys.
