Cat vomiting

I don't know what is going on with my cat.  Some days if I let his food bowl get empty he eats and then within like 10 minutes he'll throw it all up.  However, if I don't let the food bowl get empty, he's fine.  Is my cat binge eating?  Should I worry?  He is a bit overweight, but otherwise appears to be healthy.  he does like to eat stuff that looks like grass like my fake plants, Christmas tree, etc...is he saying he needs more fiber in his diet?

My cat was vomiting almost every day.  I switched her to a corn free diet and the vomiting stopped immediately.  Now - she only throws up when she has a hairball which isn't very often.  I started her on Nature's Variety Prairie Formula Salmon and Brown Rice - but they also have chicken, lamb and two completely grain free varieties.  Both of my cats love it.  I have recently started them on the grain free chicken and they really like it and no vomiting!

My plump and healthy little boy Jack does this!!  It is appearing not to be a medical condition.  He will eat regularly for weeks on end, and then will suddenly go into a binge/vomit mode for the next few weeks.  Its gotten to a point where I can actually tell when he's eating for hunger as opposed to eating to binge.  His eating has the slightest bit of manic to it when he is in the b/v mode, so slight that really only my husband and I can see it.  Its something about calling his name and then seeing a slight increase of speed in chew/swallow, as if he's worried we are calling out to make him stop or are on our way to interrupt his eating.  The vomiting is annoying more than anything, because it is an entire stomach full of still-whole food pieces.  No, soft food has not cured the issue, just makes the cleanup more difficult.  I've tried the 'leaving the bowl full' way and 'leaving the bowl almost empty' thing too, nothing changes until he suddenly stops and eats normally again.  My boy too tends to want to eat plastic-y, fake grass items, just cuz cats do I think.  Everything else about him checks out healthy and normal.  Still searching for more about the emotional side, cuz it figures cats got emotions too....

Mine also vomits time to time but I think another contributing factor could be the heat, and if the food has been sitting in a warm climated area and gets soggy thats also another factor to consider.  And yes, of course she's overweight
(19lbs, 9yrs old) -- but she appears to be in good health otherwise per the vet.
Oh, and of course hairballs also are another problem that may cause the vomiting.

Every cat i have ever had vomits at least twice a week, so i don't consider this behaviour out of the ordinary. The exception is if the cat is vomitting profusely & on a regular basis. (This could be a sensitivity to the food they are eating, or may be a sign of serious internal problems.) My beloved cat Bailey passed away last year, at the ripe age of 21! He was well cared for in every way, saw the vet on regular basis & vomitted almost daily through the years. Yes, he DID overeat now & then, but even when he didn't....he still threw up.

I had a similar problem and 140.00 later found out that the cat was eating too much and then drinking water which was causing the food to expand in his stomach thus he would vomit.  I have switched him to sensitive system food and try to keep minimal amount of food in his bowl.
