I was thinking along the same lines with CML in that maybe he needs neutering. But, I saw in your reply that he WAS neutered. It's not that. I also believe that he's being territorial. I don't believe that he's sick.
He's just being a normal, healthy kitty that doesn't want any other cat in HIS yard. LOL
LOVE is all Reese needs....and you are that special person that provides plenty of that. In the scheme of things that feeling of Love will Never make you a bad "Mommy"
Relax girlfriend, he is in good hands and he knows it...and shows it!
Best wishes,
CML
That just melts my heart. It is just me and Reese 98% of the time. He is my world and sometimes I worry that I am not a good enough "mommy".
Thank you!
Ya know, they say that cats will remain kitten like when domesticated. We become their parents and property. This is why they constantly reinforce that with rubbing on us with their scent glands.
Perhaps this was exactly what Reese was doing. Letting another cat from another gang try and encroach on his property? Like thinking.....OH NO! not happening anytime soon buddy--she is all mine and I will reinforce that by RE-marking her. You are ALL his. My cat is even territorial about me and my husband. Poor guy doesn't stand a chance, she watches him like a hawk. He try's but she and I have been through so much together she just wants him to know as far as cats go I am all hers. Funny aren't they. That is why we love em so much. Always surprising us with their quirky little ways.
You are his love and he is looking out for you, how sweet. I wish my husband treated me like that....but noooooooo!
Give Reese a big hug from me. He is an alright kinda guy in my book!
CML
Yes, he was neutered around 4 mos old.
I understood the territorial part of it....the part that perplexed me was when he immed. got soooooooooo lovey dovey with me.
Was that part of it? Territorial over me, specifically......or coincidence???
Hi AKC,
Geez I thought I sent you a post this morning, but it did not get posted. So I am assuming Reese has been neutered. That being the case, I think you are spot on thinking he smell other cats (males) around.
Male cats are very territorial, they don't like other gangs on their TURF!!
It like he is saying "Oh no you don't--stay on your own side"
Others, I am sure will also have thoughts on this. This is how we learn.
Best to you and Reese
