Well this cat is still bringing them in, or to the door.  I try to keep him in at night, but he sometimes gets by me.  I am concerned, as they will get larger, larger teeth or the mother will get to him.  He doesn't kill anything?  He brings me birds ALIVE he places them down and just sits and stares at them...lol?  All I can say is....ONLY IN MY WORLD!.....:-))

It's sooo hard not to keep them......They are sooooo cute!!!!!

First...don't panic!   Cats are unusual 'creatures."   They probably are not orphans.

You stated you cat is male.  I also live with a male cat...actually 2, but the oldest goes through this 'paternal' cycle where he brings in baby rabbits and tries to care for them.  (we have very few possums here)

He has his own 'private box' where he can be alone and not bothered and that is where he puts his "babies."  He takes food to them, expecting them to eat cat food, and tries to take water to them.  I give him about an hour or so to be 'daddy' before I take the bunnies back outside and let them go.

It is unusual for male cats to be this way.  I don't know why it happens, but it does - rarely.  I have not found any information on why this happens, but I am still looking.

Male cats are usually only interested in 'spreading' their seed and then leaving.

I am guessing your cat has the same 'odd' instinct as mine...   caretaker....go figure.

Incidentally -- they aren't waking up -- possum play dead as a defensive measure.

Those look old enough that they are not in serious danger and basically only need you to show them the way back in the general direction of their mom. You might want to give them some food outside as you have. They'll "range out" after they grow up.

You cat needs a talking to, though. Possums can seriously injure a cat, and one of these days these little fellows -- or worse their mom -- will have had enough of being carried around.

Cute picture. Swampy's going to show it to his mom as she loves critters.

Yeah, it was cute the first time and even the second, but when he plopped 2 on the floor, it got a little disturbing.....lol.  The possums wait for him to plop them on the floor and are waking much quicker now......only about 20 seconds so I have to act faster.  It seems like they are looking at me like........."Lord not again, but .....we know the drill"  lol........Ino what your saying about tonight.......ugh....I just don't know what to do with this cat anymore......his doc put him on valium for a little while to see if he will chill out.  I am so over this cat......I love em, but he is making CRAZY............

JANET !!!!!  ~~~hugs~~~girl.........I've been missing you.  Was just thinking about you last night...........

LOL!!!  I'm sorry V, but this cracks me up!  I keep envisioning the cat bringing those possums in and how frustrated the possums must be getting with him!  LOL!!!

I agree with PrettyKitty - good luck keeping him in the house tonight!  If you can make it through the first couple nights you'll be okay!

Hugs and prayers that you won't hurt him tonight!  LOL!!!  Just teasing, I know you'd never hurt an animal on purpose!

Hugs,
Janet

There are lots of Possums around here. They look funny, and act funny, and don’t mind living with raccoons.  For everyone’s safety, yours really, I would keep sending them back. They’re wild animals you know. So I would have done exactly what you did.

My husband had a cat with motherly instincts lol. He’d bring stray kittens all the time, and care for them like a momma cat (And feed them like a momma cat, or so he thought). Have you seen how some animals act protective towards other species? Perhaps your cat is that way. I have seen kitties caring for chickens and lil ducks.  Yours just happens to like Possums hahahaha.

Hmm…letting him stay inside at night……I wouldn’t want to be you that first night hahaha. Good luck with that!

No its a male cat......go figgure.  One is actually playing possum in his debut photo...:-)

Someone told me they don't think their that young, but I've never seen one that small.  There are more of them, and I don't want to disrupt nature......done that too many times and have learned, so I set them free, and decided to make an extra effort to keep the cat in after dark......that's not going to be fun.....

I did see the mom, that's the only reason I sent them back on their way.....
