Chicken Breast

I have a 13 year old cat who has megacolon. I've tried everything to help alleviate his constipation over the years. Recently about 3 months ago I started giving him a bowl of chicken breast every day. I buy a bag of frozen precooked chunks and give him about 5 chunks a day. Since I started doing this he hasn't been constipated and pooing in the box 3 to 4 times a week. It's been a miracle for me so I thought I'd share this and maybe you can try this as chicken is great for them and it wouldn't hurt to try. I also want to mention he has been more active and playful since I've been giving him the chicken which I think is partly because he's not constipated anymore and also I think the chicken is good for them as they are not meant to eat cat food in nature. Hope this works for you.

Hi. I forgot to mention he has a can of prescription urinary struvite formula cat food every day and also the hard food in this formula as he has a problem with struvite crystals. He also has a cranberry suppliment in a powder form a few times a week with his chicken. The canned food is his main diet. He only eats a tiny amount of chicken compared to his other food.

thanks for the suggestion, glad something is working for your kitty...

however I do hope you keep the chicken diet to just a small amount each day...I agree its better than feeding most of that horrid cat food, however he does need the other supplements that are added to remain healthy.

I make my own cat food for one of my boys...sometimes I use chicken as a protien source b/c he loves his chicken!!! but I have a number of supplements I need to add as well b/c just the protien without the calcium/taurine/phosphorus (to name a few) will cause other health problems...remember when they are eating a mouse they are getting the bones/skin/blood/internal organs as well and not just the flesh....

so keep up as you are doing, just make sure kitty gets at least 3/4 of his diet from a canned food that has all the supplements he needs...good luck
