Crusties

I hope this is just me panicking for nothing. I noticed just now that my cat's left eye is dirty. There is a bit of excessive tearing going on there and the "tears" or crusties, which have no color, are abundant in that eye. Is this normal? Should I take my kitten to a vet? He doesn't seem to be bothered by the boogers. The eye doesn't have any red or green mark around the pupil or anything. The eye is just unusually wet. If this is a problem, what's there to give him? I don't mind taking my kitten to a vet that's really not a problem. What do you guys think this is?

Other than that he recently got out of a bad season of not wanting to eat dry food and was losing weight. The problem was him teething and being spoiled. I got him Science Diet with ocean fish flavor and my cat has bounced back. He is active, playful and loving. This information was just an update for Savas and April2. He is OK you guys!!!

Oooo yeah, you live in Florida and have all those lovely bugs! I remember that! I used to live in Florida for awhile. No, we don't have cockroaches. I don't think they have them in Colorado. Too cold, I think. But if I remember correctly, we used to get the house sprayed once a month when we lived there. We didn't have pets then though. I don't know if that could hurt a pet. You'd have to call the pest control and ask them. It's possible that you'd have to have him out of the house for the day or something. I really don't know. I guess you can't leave the food down then. Maybe just give him a little in the morning and a little at night and then put it up?
That's funny! What a little stinker, ha, ha! He sound like a real character! :D

Oh and speaking of smart kitties, you are going to laugh. Do you know what else he does? In the morning, like at 6:30 AM he starts meowing because he gets hungry and wants fresh food, not left overs. I get up at 7:00 AM to go to work. Knowing that I still have 30 more minutes I try to make the most out of it. Kitty doesn't understand momma wants to sleep. It gets to a point where he is soooo mad and upset that his food is not ready whenever he calls, catch this, he jumps on my bed, turns his back on me so his "behind" is on my face and farts. Hahahahaha. Not kidding. I have to laugh even though it's frustrating. Does your cat act this way? I just thank God he doesn't urinate or go for number 2 on the floor. Some angry cats do this so I'm just glad he farts on my face hahahaha.

LOL that's one long name you gave me. But thanks a lot. I really appreciate you helping me. Let me ask you another question, have you had cockroaches in your house because of the cat food? I live in an apartment and I cannot place his food outside. His food is under the kitchen counter. I have noticed small roaches wondering here and there since I got the food. My bf told me once that cat food attracts roaches. I didn’t believe him. It’s completely disgusting to walk in the middle of the night knowing those things are on the floor. The cat kills them though, with his paws, playing. My concern is that if I call pest control they may throw/spread some substance which may potentially kill my kitty. What can I do?

Lol, that's so funny! He puts his toys right back in line when he's done?! What a smart kitty! Hey, I read something in a magazine that gave little games to play with your cat to see how smart they are. One of them was to get 3 dixie cups and put them upside down and show your cat a treat. Then put the treat under one of the cups and see if he goes right to that one and knocks over the cup to get the treat. Another way to tell how smart they are is to watch and see how they act when there is something new in the room. Do they stop and stare at it? Do they get in the pounce position? These all are signs of how smart they are, I guess.

As to the eye, my cat goes through times where it's ok and then times where it's teary and crusty. The eye cream really works. I just put a line in her eye every day. It's called let's see, lot's of big words here! Neomycin and Polymyxin B Sulfates, Bacitracin Zinc and Hydrocortisone Opththalmic Ointment USP. Whew, I just looked on the tube, that's a lot of words! It might have had a shorter name but I threw away the box. Anyway, just ask the vet if he needs the eye cream. Maybe you can just give it to him as needed.

My daughter said her kitten slept cuddled next to her all night. We're keeping her seperated from the rest of the animals for a few days because the vet said it was better to and because she needs a special kitty litter for a few days until her paws are healed. She's been acting great though! I was worried that she was only affectionate because she was in heat, but she's still rubbing up against us and stuff wanting to be petted.

If you're going to get another cat, it'd be best to do it while he's young. Although some cats never accept another cat in the home. Just be prepared for that. You can try it. There might be some hissing and growling at first. It can take a few weeks for them to get used to each other. I think I'd try a female too since two males might be more competitive, you know? If he won't accept another cat, you could always try a dog! :) Just know that there could be some jealousy and you'd have to be careful to give attention to both. Are you thinking of getting a kitten? Let me know! I'd love to see a picture of him! Take care. TTYL.

Will definitely send you a pm or email you. I'm very happy the kitten is doing great. Seeeeee?? Told ya!!!

I check him every day from head to toe. I check his teeth and they seem perfect to me although I honestly know little about teeth. I am feeding him a combination of wet and dry food both from the same brand: science diet. The diarrhea has stopped ever since I started with this brand and he loves it, plus the food smells very good. I keep an eye on him whenever he is eating and he eats with no trouble at all, at least to me. I might have to take him to the vet see if he has the same problem as your cat which I'm sorry to hear she has UTI. I know what you say; it's one thing after the other. Now you have one cat that's sick and the other one on antibiotics.

Sometimes I want to get another cat but then I start questioning the fact that cats are very independent and all that. I suppose that isn't completely true. My cat is very high maintenance and your cats too. Independent? I don't know if it is because he is indoor and 8 months but he sleeps with his paws around my hands, like hugging my hands. He follows me wherever I go and loves playing fetch. Nobody believes me when I talk about this but it's true, he plays fetch. I align his toys on the floor, one next to the other. Do you know what he does? He gets one and plays with it, then puts it back in exactly the same position as it was before hahahahaha then gets another one and does the same thing. Are your cats like that? It’s just funny to see him act this way.

Going back to more serious topics, this morning his eye look fine. Do you think it may be allergies? Or maybe that he was sleepy? Do you know if they get tears when they are sleepy? I still have to take him to the vet for his rabies shots. I'll take advantage of the opportunity and ask the vet about this.

I will send you pictures of him. You'll be surprised at how big he's got, and the most important thing is he is not fat although he is neutered. I think the food is playing a major role on this as it is high in fiber.

Hi bedtimestory. My cat does the same thing from time to time. We still don't know exactly what causes it but I think it might be allergies. She tears up and sometimes gets the crusty stuff under her eye. It's just one eye too. They did say it could possibly be an abcessed tooth and to check that next time I get her teeth cleaned which won't be until June. I get it done once a year. But the vet did give me an eye cream to put in her eye and it really works. She's a lot better now.
Of course, now she's been peeing on my bed this week, sigh. Come to find she's got a urinary tract infection. Just when these cat's got over the whole Giardia and diarhea thing. It's just been one thing after another! Now I have to go through the whole antibiotic thing again.
On a positive side, I brought home my daughter's kitten today and she's been acting great!
I hope you do better with getting him to eat. Are you sure his teeth are ok? Send me a pm sometime if you want. Take care.
