Dilated Pupil

My cat is FIV positive...several days ago one of  his pupils became dilated..it looks twice as big as the other eye.   I took him to the vet, she found nothing wrong, did lab work..then i saw your forum about FIV postive cat..How is FIV causing the diluted pupil..., he is in no pain..I'm sure it's not glaucoma..and it is not cataracts. he can see...

The most common causes of fixed dilated pupils are poisoning and hypertension.  Normal results on a complete blood panel should rule out poisoning, but did the vet take your cat's blood pressure?

FIV may be a secondary cause for just about anything, since it causes inappropriate immune system responses (or lack thereof)  which in turn can allow infections that can affect his nervous system to set it.  It is his nervous system that controls the dilation and retraction of pupils in response to light and if the nerves that control that function in that eye have been damaged, it could result in the pupil staying dilated..
