My cat was in very good health a few months ago, her bloodwork was very good, she had a sneeze and was on a long course of antibiotics to treat possible sinus infection.  I brought her back in for her rabies vaccine and over the next few days I noticed she was not eating or drinking and was lethargic, so I took her back to the vet.  over the following five weeks she had high fever, was on feeding and fluid support and finally went through stages of what appeared to be FIP, and then she died.  I still can't help wondering if the rabies shot triggered an immune response that brought the FIP disease into play.  could this have just been a coincidence?

Susie. My heart goes out to you over losing your fur baby.  Yes. I agree. It was the shot. I lost a kitten before too. Vets always say they didn't cause it.

Sorry , Susie, this posted before I was finished. IMOO, I would find another Vet, and make sure your present vet knows why. Maybe it will save the next unlucky owner from the same fate with their precious kit.

Sincerely,
CML

I am so very sorry to hear about your little girl. How irresponsible !

Perhaps Opus should post another reminder "Post" about just this thing.
It happens far too often. We should not have to tell VETS this. Some are just not worth the paper their diploma is printed on.

hi, I am so sorry to read about your kitty......and I am so angry that a Vet would knowingly give a rabies or any other vaccine to an ill animal....with FIP or any other disease the immune system is ALREADY low and fighting hard to recover..vaccines are a further assault  the already struggling system.
NEVER EVER give a vaccine to an infected or ill kitty......again I am so sorry for your loss and for the ignorance of the clinic that did this....:((
