this was probably misdiagnosed it sounds like it could be eosinophlic granuloma complex or rodent ulcer...I will attach a link that has a write up abt this and some photos to compare with. it is 'usually' due to an allergy...mainly to additives or grains in the food..are you feeding dry food? if so, get your kitty on some good brand wet food with NO grains, also if you are using plastic feeding dishes switch to metal or ceramic....check out the photos on the link and read through the write up and get back to us...
