Bare spot on front inside leg

My cat Denali is a neutered male, 4 years old, adopted.  My husband died in Dec. 2009, I had to move my cat and myself to a one bedroom apartment in February 2010, we were finally all moved the third week in March.  New owners of my apartment building decided to renovate all the apartments in our building, starting on our floor.  Needless to say I had to pack up again so my kitchen could be remodeled. In the meantime, men were coming in and out with new appliances.  My cat had to spend the day away from our apartment the day of the remodel. Now life is settling down in June.  But now my cat is licking his leg and there is a bald spot and I am concerned that this could be from all the stress we have been through and wonder if he even picks up my sadness and stress from all this upheavel.  Thanks for your help.

Hello and let me welcome you to the forum :)  Our animals definitely feel our emotions and you've been through so much in such a short time.  I'm so sorry for the loss of your husband.  I'm sure your kitty misses him too.  Then throw in all the moving and stress, your sadness and it's likely your kitty is reacting to it all and just as stressed as you have been with all these changes.

My suggestion would be when you see your cat licking that bald area, if you can redirect his attention somehow.  Pet him, bring his favorite toy to him and play for a bit, brush him; just something to take his attention off this compulsive behavior.  I agree with Linda also...a vet visit wouldn't hurt just to make sure you're not dealing with any issues such as ringworm.

Glad life is settling down for you.  Hopefully now kitty will calm down also.  Let us know how your boy is doing.

It could also be ringworm.

You and your kitty have been through a lot of sadness and stress.  Your kitty may pick up on your stress and may have developed a bit of a neurosis.  He probably misses your husband also. You really should have a Vet take a look at him. I guess it could be related to something in the apt. but you should have him checked out by a professional to get to the bottom of this.
