High fever in kitten

Hiya.
I need advice on a small 5wk old kitten. I found a litter of kittens who had been dumped on waste ground. (It is sooo upsetting when we have the RSPCA center and the PDSA within a mile or so.People are so cruel to just dump and leave them totally vulnerable to the elements and dogs foxes etc) Two of the kittens were dead and the remaining two were really ill. Took them straight to my vets and the kittens had two lots of anti-biotics. They both had a high fever of 40'5. As the vets were only open for a couple of hours the vet suggested to get the RSPCA involved but they were inundated with cats and kittens and said they could not come out and would I take the kittens back home and carry on treating them at home. So I took them home with synullox anti-biotics,critical care kitten food. As the kittens did not know how to lap I tried to syringe feed them liquids with lactol/whiskas kitten milk but they would not take it.I also gave them water with entrodex added which they took extremely slowly. I was not to concerned with them eating but focused on their fluids. Unfortunately one of the kittens died within hours but the strongest is still alive but her temp is still extremely high and refuses any milk substitute.
Does anyone know of a milk formula I could make up at home? She is still taking water from the syringe about 10mls every couple of hours. To help get her temp down I have a fan blowing over the top of her and a hot water bottle filled with cold water wrapped in towels which she is lying on. If anyone has any tips on her treatment and convalescence I'd be so grateful. She has got to go back to the vets tues but need advice until then. Hope someone out there can help. Thanx Jackie

Thanx for your tips and support. I'm keeping an eye on her temp but its still high at 40'5.  I have often put my boobs to good use when orphans have needed warming up but in this kittens case I shall pass as she is all teeth and claws! Best wishes and I shall keep you updated with kittys progress.

Thanks for your support and links have copied and pasted them so will link up asap. I have hand reared lots of tiny critters but she is very resistant and swears spits bites and scratches. Am hoping this is a good sign! hopefully it means she is getting her strength back. Poor little dab she has had one hell of a start in life just hope she pulls through. I'll keep you updated.
Thanx again Jackie

Thanx Jade. The poor little kitten is on my lap purring quietly so hoping she is going to feel better in morning. At least she has not got diarrhea or vomiting. As its 3am in the uk thought she might go to sleep but maybe she needs all the comfort she can get as she must wonder what the hell is going on and missing her litter mates and her mum very traumatic for her.

You are already doing much of what you should be doing.  You can try to get her to take some chicken broth.  That will provide nutients as well as fluids.  Remember to check her temp every 15 min while she is being artificially cooled.  Her temp could drop very suddenly, and you don't want to see anything under 95F (normal for cats is about 98-100F).  If she drops temp, remove her from cooling immediately.  If I were you, I would literally put her into my bra, so she could benefit from my body heat.  I hope this is helpful.  Blessings to you and your kitty - Blu
