Irritable Bowel Disease

Hey everyone.  We found out yesterday, Jade has IBD.  She's been having trouble eating for a while, then finally stopped 3days ago. You could see she *wants* to eat, but was too nauseated (I assumed).  Blood work back on July23rd initially showed she was Hyperthyroid.  She was put on Methimazole 5mgs on Aug 8th...which killed her appetite completely, and other than a bite here and there, she stopped eating.  This was a blessing in disguise as it forced us to investigate further.  Full body and chest xray on 8/20 showed nothing remarkable, so we had an abdominal u/s done yesterday.  At this point, we were looking for cancer.  Well, not cancer, but the tech did find ulcers and inflammation in her small intestine.  Her not wanting to eat now makes sense.  The ulcers are causing nausea and pain.

Jade was given an injection of B-12 and Depo Medrol (corticosteroid), yesterday.  We have to return every 2wks for B-12 injections.  We also had the tech give her, her first dose of Metronidazole liquid (Flagyl), and the 1/8th tablet of Sulfasalazine (for abdominal pain and inflammation although it IS a salicylate which can cause more pain) before we left.  We got home, she was alert and ate more than she has in days although it wasn't a whole lot.

This morning it is an entirely different story.  She has not moved from last night, and she most definitely does not want to eat.  I tried putting the Nutri-Cal on her paw, but one violent shake of the paw and it went flying.  My husband carried her out to the back where she did have a bowel movement, but she is back inside and in a stone crouch behind our chair.  I'll be calling the vet when they open in a few minutes.

I am just posting for support, as I am totally overwhelmed.

BTW when Bali went on the Meth. meds she started out at .5ml. x 2 daily.

not sure how that compares to 5 mgs. but just wanted to mention it!
even that small of a dose ruined her digestion!

isn't flagyl am anti-fungal? that's a rough medication.

Jade, we are pulling for you! Mr. Puss had a similar situation and we almost gave up- but then started feeding him raw venison- don't know if you might like that, but just thought I'd share!
He gobbled it up for several weeks then went back on his CD diet.
His mom wonders f it was allergies?
He had a thickening in his intenstinal walls and it was almost cancer- but not quite.
He ate like a wolf the rest of his life up until the end at 17!!!

Love Jerialice and Mr. Puss

Never using the Nutri-Cal before, I tried again and this time I smeared it both on the top of her paw and up her leg a little.  That did the trick.  She's licked every bit of it off.  And with the help of a dab of tuna juice, she also ate a heaping tsp of food, so I feel better she has something in her tummy.  I am waiting for my vet to call...
