Kitten Making Strange Breathing Noises

As some of you might have read on my other post regarding a new kitten that came to our porch (btw, Patches seems to be getting a long w/ him just a tab bit better...still tries to attack him & growls but not as much). Well the male kitten makes strange breathing noises when he's awake. It somewhat sounds like he's snoring but it isnt that. He's bright awake and you can hear these noises. It's like he maybe has difficulties breathing. And also, is it normal (for his age---approx 3months) that all he does is sleep, eat and poop? and the same cycle all over again? He doesnt want to "get out of bed". We get him off the beds and try getting him to walk around. But back on the beds he goes....

Any ideas?

hi dear, I'm afraid this doesn't sound good....the kitten could well have a chest infection or a virus. I think the only way to help the little tyke out is to take him to a Vet asap. when they are so young theres not much of an immune system to help them fight off anything and can often be fatal....sending some prayers, please keep us informed..♥

I need help!
My cat (amelia) gave birth to 3 kittens and everything went well.Its only now that one of them sound like he has breathing diffcuiltes and its a croacking sound coming from the chest. Its also affecting his nose as he is making sniffling noses.
Hes 9 days old and the other two seem fine but its really worrying and i dont know what to do about it.
please help and get back to ma asap!

My cat has always made strange breathing sounds, most often when he's sleeping or being petted.  I think it's a form of asthma, though none of my vet's ever commented on it, though I've discussed it with them.  You just reminded me to ask my most recent vet (2 years or more) if I've ever discussed it with her.

Fluffy was a wild child at the age of your little one.  The only reason that he didn't climb the drapes was that he is missing a back leg.  It didn't stop him from tearing around the house, up and over furniture, and chasing his mom all over.  

He had a little plastic car that he would bring up on the bed while I was trying to go to sleep, and drop it on my chest, waiting wild eyed until I threw it across the room.  He'd chase it, bat it around, the pick it up in his mouth, bound up on the bed, and repeat the process.  

I hope that you can get your little one to the vet soon, and that he'll be running and playing soon.

Fluffy is 14, and doesn't play much any more.  Sigh, I miss that.  Still love my Fluffy, though, and can't get a kitten due to where I live.

This sounds like pneumonia or asthma, and yes, cats do get asthma.  The vet will probably do an x-ray and put him on antibiotics.  You must know that this will NOT go away on its own, but it could get worse.  Cats don't just get a cold like we do.  Their's does not clear up.

An x-ray is not expensive, and with some meds he'll be as good as new!!

The cat has a cold. It might be mild, but it should nonetheless be treated. For his age he should not sleep as much. A 3 month old cat should have plenty of energy, drive the owners crazy, meow a lot, jump, run around the house like a maniac..that's what the average, normal 3 month old should do. Some cats will sleep a lot with a cold. Take him to the vet for treatment. They may give some antibiotics for the little guy. At local shelters, what they do is they euthanize the cat with URI (upper respiratory infection) but the illness can be perfectly treated. Try not to delay the trip to the vet. I don't think it will cost you a lot of money now. If the cat gets worse you might have to spend more money though.

It sounds like your little guy has an upper respiratory infection.  Pretty common in stray kittens.  Depending on what is causing the infection, he may or may not get better on his own.

Since he does sound quite listless, he may have a more serious infection than he can handle on his own.  A trip to the vet would be best.
