Leg Amputation

My daughter's year old cat has had to have her back leg amputated after being hit by a car.  Do cats manage OK with three legs?

Thank you so much for the information.  I have read the site, and there are also others.  I have told my daughter to read these.  Her cat, with her brother, were rescue cats.  Lucy is so small and only just a year old.  She has had to stay in vets for a week, as lost a lot of blood, and is very poorly.

We are all hoping she adapts to life on three legs.  Her brother is distraught wondering where his sister has gone.  We are longing for her to come home.
