Loreena's news

Plans for the castration are going on.
Loreena was not fine day 26 however, too much quiet. I took her next day to the one vet that had told me he needed avaliated for giving the costs for surgery ( it was a journey tell you later on) and he said she had fever and probably colic. I was eating and drinking and the medicine will be about 80 reais so we decided giving her some time.
Later on home I noticed her poo was really a little soft but nothing more wrong happened.Give her normal feed and some chicken as he had suggested since he turned his nose to whiskas sachet I was intending give her as reward for the first transport box trip ( walking)
Tonight to today about midday she was great, eating a lot .poo was still not normal but active and boring as usual.
So she eat a bit of one feed shes used to but has not been eating for a long (she wanted!) and after that I see her showing signs of colic again. Maybe that one was a little old and caused that .
How can one control an "Ethiopian Cat "that if not dead is in the mood for  food? :)
Tonight she was good enough to go hunting and bring a lizzard for giving to the babies . Had to keep her out till  I call a vet and ask if i could allow kittens to receive the gift and she ended eating that ( just for not wasting, i guess)
Caused her no problem since she was ok by morning.
Well thats all ... hope was just a food reaction and she keeps going ok by the moment I arrive home.
Hugs!

1- I AM NOT giving her treats frequently - she eats all junk she met on the way . I can only take care about my trash, even so its not easy. Cats are too much smart!
2- No problem with her eating lizards except that they can have eaten poisoned insects... I feel better when the poor one is moving, must be a health one.
3- Take her to another vet , she said I should give her just one brand and wait a month to see.I doubt she accept, girl is crazy about variety and eat at lest 2 together. None of then is new and they never caused her harm
4- Personally, junk food apart, I guess great part is due to stress; girl is just like her stepmother!

I do not see anything wrong with allowing babies to eat lizards. Momma is teaching them after all, and caring for them. Cats eat lizards, birds, mice etc. Out of those meals, I'd be most comfortable letting them eat lizards. My cats eat lizards, too. But, please keep feeding them their regular diet. Kittens do need special nutrition and more nutrients than adult cats.

As to Loreena. Is there a pattern to her diarrhea? Is it after she eats the treats? Please don't feed her too many treats. They lack nutrition. They are equivalent to a piece of candy for humans. Only empty calories.

What could be causing loose stools? Hmm...diet, parasites, stress, or a sudden health condition NOT life threatening. Maybe the treats are causing this? I would stick to just one type of food and stop the treats for now. If the diarrhea continues I would change her food. I'm not sure what brands you have in Brazil but I can certainly tell you about some good foods with very, very balanced nutrition. And hopefully you will be able to find and afford it.

Keep the updates coming k?

Hugs!

oh you and Loreena sure do have your tales!!...If I read you correctly, Loreena wants to eat the special treats and not her good diet?...treats are only to be given in very small amounts and only occasionally or all kitties will begin to prefer that over their good diet!
Don't be overly concerned abt her loose poops...occasionally that will happen.
And I'm sure she has had many lizards before if she is used to living and doing for herself before she came to you...kitties usually know what foods that are harmful to them.
Did the Vet say it was ok for the babies to eat the lizard too?
How old are those babies now? are they eating kitten food yet or just milk from Loreena?
