Loss of fur above my cat’s eyes

I have an almost 7 year old white calico named Schotzi.  earlier this week I noticed fur loss and a pencil point size red dot on the skin above her left eye.  I asked an online vet a question and it was suggested to apply hydrogen peroxide to the area and see.  The next day the furless patch was larger and there were three pencil point red dots above her eye.  I made an appointment for the vet. We went in and they wood lamp exam and a skin scraping (both came back neg. for ringworm) and gave her an injection of Cefovecin.  and told be to swab the area twice a day with neosporin ointment. Which I have done.  She scratches the area intermittently but NOT excessively what I would say is a normal amount.  the skin is not irritated at all but today I noticed that there is now some fur loss above her right eye and there is also one pencil point red dot and a larger about 1/16 of an inch by 1/32 of an inch red mark. she does not have mites as far as the vet told me? could this be flees? she eats natural balance raw and human grade solid white tuna (although she mostly like the water and leaves the tuna) her littermate sister who is a gray short hair scatches far more then Schotzi and is completely fine.  I really don't know what to do. I don't have a lot of money to keep going to the vet and get incomplete answers. Schotzi is not in any distress and is acting perfectly normal without any pain or any other symptoms     Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. It is much appreciated!

Hi Joe,

Jumping in here to say,  try Weruva cat food. It is all natural, grain free. and my cat Meezy gives it 4* paws up. Nothing passes her mouth unless she loves it and she lapped the Weruva Tuna right up. Yea! A winner!!!

Good Luck,

Thank you so much for your email.  I will try and find another alternative to the tuna,  Schotzi is very particular as to what she will eat.  Here main food is Natures Variety with freeze dried chicken bits   I will try and see if she will eat  another flavor like venison or something she has been having the tuna for only a few months as she will not eat the roasted chicken that I feed her sister who has eaten it every day for overt 5 years without any symptoms whatsoever.  I am still going to use the neosporin ointment for awhile more but hopefully it is just a food allergy and I can find something that will not only she will eat but also stem the hairloss   Again many thanks for your email and your advice.   JJ

hi....I am going to send you a link to a photo of my kitty Sami...the red spot and hair loss sounds very much like what he suffered with...click on the link below and tell me if it looks the same.

http://www.medhelp.org/user_photos/show/274134?personal_page_id=473886

Sami also underwent many tests and everything was good....also NO mites nor ringworm. after some trial and error it was finally concluded that it was more than likely a food allergy, Chicken is usually the biggest culprit mainly because its the base of MOST cat foods and thus they are overexposed to it. My Vet suggested a 'novel' protien, meaning something he's never had before and something with NO feathers...I suggest you give that a try.
I also strongly suggest you not feed any human tuna.(even the juice)..we humans are even warned not to consume more than once per week due to the high mercury content, so its much more a danger to something as small as a cat...

Many Vets recommend NO fish at all not even pet food fish to cats....however it was necessary for me to feed Sami a diet of ocean fish along with beef for awhile since he wouldn't eat buffalo or venison as recommended. the sores went away and the hair grew back quickly after this change, I waited nearly a year before allowing him chicken again...he now has it on rotation with other proteins

you need to check the labels well b/c many foods that say beef and even some fish still have a chicken base...
