Male cat with swollen breasts

Hello,
We took in a male cat that was over a year old (this was 6 months ago). Four months ago we had him neutered. Since then, he has doubled his weight(he is now weighing in at 17 pounds) but the main concern is the swelling of his breasts. It seems to be just the ones closest to his anus. He does not seem to be in any pain, nor have any discharge. Could it just be fat deposits? Is this anything to be concerned about? He and our female cat(she has been neutered as well) share the food bowl, so we are trying to find a way to restrict his axcess to food without affecting her intake. She is not overweight. She still weighs in around 6 pounds.

Thank you,
Terri

If he's overweight there's a few things it can be. I'd suggest getting him checked just in case it is serious. I don't want to start naming things it can be...it's probably not serious so why have scary medical conditions in your head to obsess over?!?! Overweight cats can develop a "dewlap" there, but it tends to be loose skinned. If it seems "swollen", definitely get him checked.

I'd try using a diet dry food (they work wonders) and giving your female additional treats/meals seperate from your big boy. Otherwise, she could drop to much weight from the diet food.
