Any more tips on recovering from struvite crystals?
? My male cat 9 years has been struggling for two months. It started with a blockage, unable to pass uring then leaking. He has been treated twice with many drugs, stiched in catheta - everything. He has no appetite, I wet the food, make broth, have bought a water fountain, give the anti struvite vet prescription, (doesnt taste so goo)
Anyone ever cured this? yesterday he was leaking everywhere and he has just finished 10 days of treatment.
Should I just buy really tasty food and he might flush out? or stick with the medical that he eats little of?
Anyother tips please? Should I cook him fresh meat as I've heard this can acidify the urine? Help?
I need to know a bit more about what you mean by "innappropriate elimination"...although I can guess. :)
Start by making sure your cat gets sufficient water intake. Cats get almost 85% of their water intake from food, not the water dish. So a wet food is a good idea.
if that doesn't handle it, you can try using a feeding syringe to give your cat 5 cc's or so of water twice daily. You may want to go a more natural approach diet-wise, with rice mixed with chicken, fish, etc... many of the special diet foods you get in the pet store aren't truly all encompassing when it comes to imbalances in your kitty.
Check with your vet, though, as he/she should have the blood work up that specifies what exactly are your cat's needs.
