Oxycodone used in cats for pain, how long does it last in the feline system?

what is the half life of oxycodone in cats?  I've heard it works well for pain in cats.  I'm trying to get more information on what may help my 12 year old cat.  I'd like to have my questions in order before I pay my/her vet?

I agree with Opus88. Oxycodone is not something recommended for
cats.  What is wrong with your kitty ?  Where did you hear that oxycodone
can be used for pain in cats. If you read it on an internet web site,
you can't believe every thing you read on an internet web site.
Oxycodone is a strong opioid drug, but should not be given to cats
because of possible dangerous side effects. If your vet is recommending
that you give your kitty oxycodone, find a new vet. I don't know the
nature of your cat's pain, but do not consider oxycodone as a possible
treatment for your cat's pain. As Opus88 mentioned there are other
opiates which are better tolerated by cats. It would help us cat parents
if you shared what is wrong with your cat.    Eve

But you can give a cat fentanyl patches or other opioids why the difference between those and oxycontin
What makes you think you can give a cat a fentanyl patch? Did a vet tell you this?
I just googled this, and found that there has been experimentation of giving fentanyl as a patch to cats, I assume they know exactly the dose and they were clearly doing it under lab conditions. But fentanyl can easily kill people, they think they are taking a little pill but it has a huge dose, and they die. Someone trying to guess and put together a dose for their cat at home is taking a huge risk. If a vet recommends a pain killer for a cat, he or she will be able to advise on the dosing. If a person has some human medicine and pops it into their cat's mouth, it could be something cats can't tolerate, or the dose could be all wrong and the cat could die. This kind of thing, one simply has to do with the doctor's input.

Please don't prescribe for your kitty, let the vet do it.  The half-life doesn't matter if the vet tells you not to use it in the first place.

can I asked what is the nature of your kitties pain? Oxycodone is not something recommended for cats that I know of, there are better opiates that are better tolerated especially for cats, the one I know is prescribed most often is Buprenorphine(buprenex). Please be sure to discuss this drug and the dosage with your Vet.
