Plants in the house...

I would really love to have alot of plants in the house but Im afraid my sweet curious cats will eat it and get sick, I have two indoor cats and I havent been about to have plants in the house before they always eat them, how can I keep them out of it! Also what is the best "cat friendly" plant to have in your home?

Check out the Cat Fancier's website.  They have a page that lists the most toxic houseplants to cats.  It's sister site, Dog Fancier's, has nearly the identical list.  The list is not all inclusive, but it can help you narrow down which plants are safer than others.  No lilies, no dragon trees and no dumb cane (diffenbachia).  There are others, but these are amongst the most toxic of houseplants for cats and dogs both.

Funny, swampy brought some of his plants in and within seconds one of the cats was chowing away! Swampy thought about putting out a bowl of ranch dressing for him.

I have always had houseplants and my cats never seemed to care. My cats, however, were indoor-outdoor cats. I think cats require an outside life, unlike dogs whose life is with their masters.

That's an excellent idea, allmymarbles!  Mimi, i have the same trouble with one of my young (7 mo old) cats.  Catnip is a great diversion.  Also I do now try to keep my plants up and away from his reach or the bigger plants in a room where he can't get to them.  After a month or two I will re-introduce the plants, one at a time and hope the behavior has been re-directed... I think they do get better around plants as they get older.  I've never had this issue with any of my older cats.
