Roundworm?

My Kitty was just neutered and vaccinated on 1/6. They gave him Round worm dewormer as his stools were loose as well. His next dose is not due until 1/20. Today I came home to find he vommited on the rug and there was both hard and loose fecal matter in his litter box. Tonite he had some bloody mucus movement. I am very scarred for him. He seems ok. Not eating his food just drinking water tonite. I did give him a new wet food this morning. Is it possible it didnt sit right or is it a parasite? Im a new cat owner and the vet is closed for the eve. I do not have the money to take him to the emergency clinic and not sure its necessary.
Should he have worms or a parasite should this 2nd dose knock it out? Is there anything I can do for him in the meantime. his next dose is a week away.
Any input would be appreciated

Thanks

His eyes look fine and so does his coat mouth gums etc. He was back to his normal self yesterday. Sticking with the dry food diet and he ate it all yesterday. He is playing upa  storm and seems happy. Maybe it was just the change in food which disruppted him so. This wed he gets his 2nd dewormer. I take his sample to the vet the following monday. Shouild know then if that has cleared.
Im a 1st time cat owner, always had dogs so I am super in tune to how my little one is doing. I feel horrible that I cause him to be so sick though. lesson learned :(
I have to remember this little one survived 5 months outside with no medical care & when the vet checked him they were pleased at how healthy, (aside from the roundworm) he was. Felv/FIV Neg, no ear mites, fleas etc
I will keep you posted. Thanks for your input and advice.

Sorry about the ring worm/round worm mix up

They should have de-wormed him for roundworm, hookworm, tapeworm and other parasites.

The rest of what I said I stand by.

I am still concerned about your concern of ring worm...  ring worm is not really a worm but a fungal infection.  Usually presents itself on cats around the mouth, paws or anal area.  It can cause bloody stools if the infection is not treated.

Purina is considered a good food.  I personally stay away from purina...too much 'by products' (those parts of the animal that are not edible).  Fancy Feast is the same way.

If he didn't greet you today, assuming he usually does, there is something wrong.

I know very well how hefty Vet bills can be.  If he is listless and not reponsive to you that is a sure sign of major infection (assuming he greets you with energy and is very playful usually).

Check his eyes.... do they look 'glossy'?  Do his gums appear very very light pink almost white or white?

If you put your hand right behind his anus, does the air feel hot?  (you don't have to touch it)

Do his paws feel hot?  what about the inside of his ears?

these are all signs of infection.  And even ifyou answer yes to two of these you need to call your vet and get him examined or at least on some antibiotics.  However, putting him on antibiotics without examination can cost your cat his life because the Vet doesn't really know what is wrong.

There is no quick fix here, Chrissy.  The change in cat food 'might' be the problem, but it probably is not.

It sounds as if your kitty has an infection that needs to be taken care of.

Call your Vet.

The Vet said to give him Purina dry cat chow. I had given him fancy feast and that really was a bad day. He seemed fine last night and this morning but when I came  home today he was laying on the couch didnt even greet me. He is very tired, threw up a little clear liquid then had a loose stool movement. He has been sleeping for the past 3 hrs. I hope whatever is bothering my baby leaves soon. Im worring way to much & cant afford to take him back to the vet until next fri. Last weekend I just paid a hefty vet  bill (vaccinations, neutering, boarding) So I am stressing here....just want him better  fast

Im happy to report I came home to a clean apt. He has had normal stools and no more vomitting. I think maybe the wet food really disrupted his gasteric system. He ate tonite and is happy playing and seems fine. Hoping its all out of his system.

The Vets office said they seem to think its from the change in food. Meaning, I his mommy got him sick :(   This morning he ate some dry food and when I came home during lunch he had vommited that up but no loose stool. Im hoping his stomach is just needing time to settle and there is nothing more.
Thanks for the reply,Im back at work now.  I'll keep you posted.

Oh dear I can imagine you are worried, I suggest you call your Vet and discuss with him this a.m....as I really can't answer your question.
I doubt if a new food would cause him to vomit, but it could cause the loose stools.
So call your Vet, not really necessary to take him to clinic unless it continues more than a day, he also have had a reaction to the dewormer although I don't think thats common?
Let us know what the Vet said and how kitty is doing this a.m.
best to you both
