He is on canned food, and he is on expensive dry that balances out the stuff that courses the crystals. He mainly eats canned food but he gets about a small hand full of dry a day

honey I think you did good by getting Whiskey off the chicken necks and roo.....he does need a good source of protien, but honey that HAS to be in a canned food NOT a dry, dry will only make his crystals much worse.....chicken necks would be dangerous because of the small bones...but roo is probably ok...better than dry food!!!!
otherwise,
can you find a  canned food that you can afford? its best of course to be feeding those high quality ones but dear any canned food is far better than the dry...so see what you can find that he likes....please post again..♥

I keep forgetting that you're in Australia.  lol  There's some other very good brands out there, too.  You can order it online, BUT I don't even want to think about how much the shipping would cost....probably pretty damn scary!

Anyway....good luck girl, and know that all of us on here only want the best for you and Whiskey!!!  =)

So glad Whiskey made the transition with no fuss.  But......I agree completely with zodiac, he needs nutrients a totally raw diet of meat cannot give him.

I have leaned on the entire Wellness selection of foods for my kits.  There are others, I am sure, but for me, it was delightful to discover foods in this brand.  Altho' you do spend a bit more for the food, in Whiskey's case, it won't break the bank.

I'm pushing for the Wellness food as adding a supplement to his food may or may not work and you will be out the $.  I tried lots of things before getting into Wellness brand: they even have tasty treats which every cat or kitten I've befriended loved ....altho' they had been used to Temptations treats......

Love and congrats again for getting Whiskey back to health,
SG

It's great that you got him off of the hard food and he loves his new diet, BUT there are certain extremely important nutrients that Whiskey might not be getting.  I would add either some high quality hard food....just a little, to make sure that he's getting the right nutrients.  For example, taurine is extremely extremely important-it helps w/ the normal function of the heart and eyes.  I'd be willing to bet that the diet your cat is on doesn't have enough of this nutrient in it.

Please, add a high quality hard food(ex. Wellness Core) or getting a powder vit/min supplement to add to his food.  This is very important, because taurine deficiencies can be life threatening.

I changed his diet on my own. And he loves it and he has put on weight which is good bcoz he lost some being sick.
He doesn't ask for dry food now which is great :D

Have to throw my 2 cents in ....hope Whiskey is soon over this mess.  I learned on the cat forum about how to prevent UTIs in our cats.   Now I can't bring myself to feed any kit that appears @ my door anything but Wellness canned food.....which they usually love, tho I suspect dry food is their usual diet.  One ate Shadow's leftover kitten chow..again it was a no grain product made by Wellness....so am sure it was fine.

Isn't it amazing how the entire paradigm of feeding animals has changed???  If Whiskey will eat raw meat it is good.  Some cats can't make that transition.  Good luck.

Yeah, many cats love their dry food - unfortunately, crystals are the outcome for many.  I'm so glad you got to the bottom of Whiskey's problem and he's now on the road to recovery!.  Good job, hon!  Just be a tough mama - you're doing the right thing by denying him.  I do know how hard it is to change a cats diet, but it's for his own good - and your pocketbook.  What kind of food did you decide to go with?

Well We have found out what was the cause of Whiskey's Crystals and It is dry food (One of his most favourite things to eat).
So he is now on a no dry food diet which is really hard because thats all he wants sometimes

Whiskey will feel a whole lot better once he's off antibiotics.....at least he's eating.  Some cats won't eat and wind up puking from the antibiotics.

I would definitely call the vets to ask about the results of the urinalysis and that should tell you about the crystals.  I'm pretty sure that they did this test.  Maybe it'll take a while for the results to come in.  Call and ask them, you do need to know.

Here's a very good link that I found.....check it out!

Yeah its antibiotics. He is eating what they gave him which is nothing compared to what i normally give him.
They didnt tell me if they tested the crystals so im kinda peeved.

Poor Whiskey!!  Sorry to hear that he's got diarrhea.  =(  What tablets is he taking?  If it's antibiotics, they can most definitely make him nauseous and give him loose stools.  Hey...it happens to us, too!!  Is Whiskey eating decent?

PS-Did the vet test the crystals to see what they're made of?  I hope so, because that's important and could help you prevent the crystals in the future.

Well Whiskey had been sick and has had diarrhea today so i am a bit worried i don't know if its a side effect to his tablets.
