Throwing up yellow foam

I have an 8 year old male cat who started throwing up yellow bile on Saturday. I got him to drink a little tuna juice and he acted like he wanted to eat dry food but only ate one piece and that was after several times of picking it up and putting it back down. All test results from the vet came back normal. No bacteria. He did have blood in his stool. But no infection. No temp, and barely dehydrated. He's going in for a teeth cleaning tomorrow because he had severe tartar build up. He got a shot for the throwing up but he has still been puking at least twice a day. Just wondering if anyone has ran into this before.

Hi Rebecca...I am thrilled to read Henry has recovered so well.  Yes, will take a little time to gain his weight back, as he was a pretty sick kitty, but he will!

Let us know if we can ever be of any more help.  I hope not - hope all kitties and Kaya (we have a great Dog Community) stay healthy!!

Hey Jade! Sorry been a busy few days. Had some nice, warm weather and have been getting some things done outside. Henry went Tuesday to the vet. It was a short trip. He has gained some weight, but she said it would take more than a week or so to get back to normal. She was pleased at how he looked and said he should fine. She did say if anything starts changing to let her know ASAP. He has been eating and drinking more normal. Also jumped on the kitchen counters(which is a first)...so I'm hoping this means the worst is behind us. Thank y'all again for everything. It has been so nice to meet people who care as much about my boy as I do!

Great to hear there's a plan in place for 'just in case'.  This new vet sounds so much more in tune than the first one.

You're welcome about the double post.  Unfortunately, YOU are not able to delete posts.  Only CL's and Mods have access to the 'secret delete button'.  lol

Thank you both. I figured if he was going to have a reaction it probably would have occurred by now. Just worried that once he finishes his anti-vomiting medicine we might run into the same problem. Hopefully that won't be the case though. Luckily the new vet has a game plan if that is the case, so I am much happier with her than the original.

And thanks for deleting that double post, Jade! Couldn't figure out how to on my phone lol.

Thanks for the update.  I'll second Jade in the opinion that if Henry was going to have a reaction to the Covenia, it would have occurred by now.

Hi honey...thanks for the update.  It sounds like Henry is doing well even though he is still on meds.  It's been 8 days, and I think if he was going to react to the Convenia, it would of surely happened by now.

Continued prayers and fingers crossed for him.  Please let us know how his re-check goes.

p.s.  I took care of the double post.  And thank you for your kind thoughts; I'm doing okay. :)

Hi Jade! Thank you for the comment- I hope you are doing well. Henry has a check up on Tuesday afternoon. He is still on special food and gets an anti- vomiting pill once a day. Monday will be his last day on that so I am curious to see how he does once it is out of his system. I'm hoping for the best, but I guess trying to prepare for the worst. So far he is keeping everything down. He is back to grooming himself and his brothers and sisters, and acting more like his normal self. Praying it stays that way.

It is very scary stuff! I couldn't believe some of the stuff I read. I can't imagine what those people went through. I would be so heartbroken, and to know it could have potentially been avoided makes it that much harder. I wonder why they haven't pulled it from vets? Just not enough proof? I'm so thankful y'all told me about it. I will definitely be saying no! It's just scary that vets can give your animals medication and you have no idea.

So far, so good with Henry. He's still not eating a ton, but he is eating. He wasn't drinking as much as normal and I was worried about that. Could that have been from all the fluid he received(Friday-Monday)....but he seems to be drinking a little more normal this afternoon. I just got home for the day so I am curious to see how the evening goes. I'm trying to make sure I notice when he goes to the bathroom, eats, drinks, etc. Thank y'all for the good thoughts!

Hi honey, I'm sorry if my last post was abrupt.  Just keep a close eye on Henry like I know you are.

Each time you take one of your pets to the vet (or ER)...I think you will be taking Cole next for suspected IBD...you will want to immediately have "No Convenia" written in their chart IN RED.  Each of your kitties and Kaya will have a different chart, so you want this written in ALL charts.  I'm sure this goes without saying. :)

Thinking of you and Henry today.  How is he feeling?

Yeah it's scary stuff, but I really think Henry would hv shown a reaction by now if he was going to, Jade just wanted you to know abt this now so you can make sure any Vets treating Henry won't use it again....makes me so angry we Aren't even given the option or told of the dangers they just go ahead and use it without consent....:(

Oh my gosh. I read through all of it and then googled even more. Ugh. Now I feel like I'm going to be stressed even more. I can't believe the vets don't even give you an option. She told me she had given him a 14 day antibiotic shot, but I had NO clue to all that. I'm worried even more now.

Ugghh, I just wrote you a long post and lost it.  Anyway, great to hear Henry is eating and using the box.  I'm sure he feels one heck of a lot better with all those rotten teeth out.  Please keep us updated on how he's feeling.

Okay, here's the thing about that 2wk antib shot he received.  This is CONVENIA, and can be very dangerous.  I am in a rush right now...I lost that whole post explaining things.  The link I'm leaving will speak for itself.  Please be sure to read through it.  And please, you don't want this shot to be given EVER AGAIN.

Thanks y'all! I don't know who is happier he is home- him or I. He has been extra cuddly and been eating well. I'm trying not to get my hopes up because you just never know. He did get an antibiotic shot that is good for two weeks. So I guess I was already wondering what would happen after it wears off. Nothing was seen in an ultrasound. She did tell me she met with the second vet there and they both looked over Henry and his record. If he starts vomiting again I have to bring him in for more testing. One being the FPL that was mentioned earlier in this post. She said they would be checking for IBD, also. She said that the original cause could have been that his teeth were so bad he didn't want to eat. And then not eating causes the empty stomach, which caused the vomiting. So he was feeling crappy and then getting 10 teeth pulled made it even worse. I figure I will see more as the days progress. He goes in next week for a check up and weight check. He has been eating and using the litter. He's on some can food I had to get from the vet for now. So I guess we will see.

I gotta say, as it got later and later, I was afraid to read.  Great news about Henry's blood work.  I'm sure both he and you are more than happy he is home.

So is he eating?  And did he get an ultrasound?  I don't mean to be a downer, but he's been on fluids, was force fed, and he received what I suspect was a shot of Convenia (2wk antibiotic - we will discuss that another time).  So of course he is going to feel good.  But once all that wears off, he could be right back where he started.  Trust me, I have been through this.  I know you paid a lot of money for those, what, 4days, but we want to find out WHY Henry got nauseated enough to stop eating in the first place.  Like I said earlier, blood work doesn't always tell the full story.

I'm sure you're stressed out, and probably don't want to hear what I just wrote.  For now just enjoy your boy being home. :)  Please let us know tomorrow how Henry is feeling.  Hugs to you!  xo

I just bet he is over joyed to be back home with mommy....

Thanks Jade! Henry got to come home about 4 hours ago. He was very, very talkative on his way home and has been all over the house since he got here. Of course the other cats are trying to check him out and his new smell lol. He goes back next week for a weight check and a check up, and the vet said she would be calling me this Thursday to check on him, but if something happened before then to call. Almost all his blood work came back great. There were a few things that were a little high. But she was very happy with it. I'm praying it continues and the vomiting doesn't return. Fingers crossed. He sure seems happy to be home though lol.

CML- how is Meezy doing? Hope all is well on your end!

Just saw your post CML! Im so glad the enema worked, thank god for baby wipes I always say, lol. Will the FPL determine if it is pancreatitis? Just wondering in case I want to ask the new vet if they tried that on Henry. The money adds up quick it seems! The new vet gave me an estimate of about $1200 and that's not including his first two visits to the first vet. I need a second job just to pay vet bills, lol. I hope you get some rest and let us know how yall are doing! Hopefully Meezy will be just as tired as you tonight and yall can both sleep, lol.

Thank you for the article! I am about to tackle it, lol. I really just want something that keeps them healthy. I have some cats on the smaller side, and a few that are chunky monkeys, so Id like to get their weight down and everyone a little more even. Or at least get my bigger cats, down some lbs. I actually did see on one of the articles I read about the nasal feeding tube. Some even said the vet sent the cat home with it still in for several weeks. So I guess we will see. I'm hoping Meezy is doing better tonight!
