Urine problem

Okay fellow kitty lovers- I come with a question. I have a male cat who has been neutered since he was very young. He is about 10. Doesn't miss a thing. When I come home from work, or the yard, or around other animals he is checking me out left and right. However, I have caught him once spraying the outside of our inside trash can, and have cleaned up other times when no one was caught at the scene. He's done this to varying spots through out his life, but it just seems daily now. I've tried about every cleaner I can find. Just wanted to see if anyone else deals with this, what you would suggest using to clean the area, or how to prevent it. Thanks guys!!

Thanks Opus! I'm still trying to switch them completely to wet food. They are so dang picky. But if things don't improve I may get his PH checked out. It didn't concern me as much when it was here or there. But it's almost daily now. I will also look into some of the cleaners you mentioned. I have tried Natures Miracle a few years ago so I could always look into that again. Thank you!! :)

hi.....dang male cats eh...it can be sometimes a simple fix, usually its due to feeding dry food, their PH level in their bladder becomes very high(over 6.7) thus forming crystals, these crystals are painful to pass and cats try to tell us they are hurting by peeing inappropriately.

feed only wet canned food to male cats in particular...but females do get crystals too, just not as common b/c they have a shorter and wider urethra to pass them easier.

my one boy had terrible crytals and he was a dry food addict, I tried every canned food avail repeatedly and he refused to eat...I finally had to start making him homemade cat food.
whats important is they eat NON dry food ever...and drink lots of water as well, you can even add a little more water to the cans..but they are already 78% water compared to only 12% in the dry food.

you could get his urine tested by your Vet to see what his PH is, but the only way to get the urine more alkaline is by wet food. YOu can also get his urine sample to see if theres an infection present at the same time

as far as cleaners, there are a few enzyme cleaners avail at good pet stores is this what you've used? the one I like the best is called Fizz or something its a table you mix with water.
theres also Urine Erase, Natures Miracle etc.....
they remove the smell but don't always stop the cat from peeing if there is a medical problem going on

good luck
