Weird cat symptoms, please help!

My cat has not quite been himself for the last few weeks. i don't know how to describe it other than just strange. he seems easily confused and surprised by things on the ground that aren't there. he also will just randomly stare off into space. i thought it may have been a result of the urinary tract infection we just treated last week, but he is still acting strange.

this morning he was all off balance and staggering a bit. he also has an increased appetite, a wetter nose than usual and possible diarrhea. he was relatively active and playful last night. during the vet visit last week (for urinary problems) the vet proscribed him a low dose Valium regiment to help him deal with the stress that might be triggering the urinary problems.

i have a vet appointment for tomorrow afternoon, i was just wondering if anyone has dealt with something similar to this so i know what to expect. thanks!

I agree with the valium being the culprit.  It makes be kind of weird I cannot take it.
Maybe stop it and see how your kitty acts?

he may just be playing. i will probably be able to tell for sure when he's feeling better.

i talked to the vet tek. this morning and she basically said the same thing. so i didn't give him the valium this morning and he's doing much better! i'm still restricting his food for the next 24 hours to see if his potty problems go away. hopefully they will and he can get back to being his old self.

My cat does that when he is playing or acting "mature". You sure he isn't just playing?

In addition to that, what the vet prescribed, Valium (Diazepam) can also have this effect on cats and other animals. In other words, the drug can cause sedation and disorientation and some animals may become uncoordinated and weak.  So, he is probably suffering one of the most common side effects of this drug. Talk to the vet about this; it's the only thing you can do at this point, to see when these symptoms will go away since I don't think there is anything you can do now that the medication is in the system.

I'm sure he'll be fine. Just a little time and the effects will disappear. Let us know what the vet says. Good Luck.
