Yes, I do give Akira Zyrtec. I give her breaks from taking the Zyrtec, too, though. I figure if people can build up resistance to antihistamines that it would be reasonable to assume that the same thing can happen to the cat. I generally give her the Zyrtec when the allergies are bothering her the most so that I don't give her too much.
Staci, do you remember we've all suggested Lysine? Very good to boost kitties immune system. I used to take it myself. Can go check and get a can of powdered at a health food store or shoot, maybe even capsules at rite aid or CVS...then just measure out - should start with 500mgs, then drop down 250mgs for maintenance. Would benefit Spirit and the boys immune system. If you look back at a previous question of yours (on your Home page at the bottom, you will find your questions) and suggestions from Opus (I think it was Opus) with the best brands you can buy online and not expensive at all.
Poor little girl. I hope Bunny feels better ♥
My kitties are strictly indoor but when the weather allows i open the birdie window for fresh air and they sit by it to watch the birdies so whatever's blowing around out there that might irritate them would blow right on it. I'll try keeping that window shut..I don't remember her getting allergies before, but I guess their bodies change over time, too. And we do plan to get her to vet for unrelated matter as soon as we have money-thanks for the advice & info!
I was hoping you would come along and answer - thanks FM. Don't you also give Akira a little Zyrtec?
Yes, they can. My kitty has the same environmental allergies that I do. We usually have the same symptoms on the same days with the runny eyes even. And, this without the actual seasonal allergies. We seem to both be allergic to this apartment. Moving isn't really an option.
Cats can also have kitty colds.
There are other more serious issues that the symptoms can mean, too, especially if the cat is an indoor/outdoor cat. So, you should still take the cat to the vet.
