Jeanette, truly, bless you for advocating for this poor cat. And not just taking your friends word and seeing for yourself. Keep us updated. We can only hope your neighbor will take Otis to the vet on Monday.
I had a neighbor like this which is how I came to be Jade's mama. Family moves in to the rental next door 41/2yrs ago and very first thing I see is Jade in my backyard looking so sick, it just broke my heart. That night, she slept on my porch in a little bed I made since she was banished from the house due to the new furniture, I'm told. Neighbor never did take Jade to the vet in spite of my gently pressure. Was oblivious to Jade's sickly appearance. My husband and I took over her care and neighbors never seemed to notice. They moved several years ago. Jade stayed, of course. They were neighbors from hell, but I'm so thankful they moved in because Jade desperately needed medical attention and love and putting up with them for 2yrs was so worth it!
Well I spoke to Otis's owner today who said they thought it was a UTI but when I asked about testing she was evasive ,so I asked about his belly as I said before I was concerned because it was loose like a female that just gave birth to 1/2 dozen kittens like when they are full of milk (does that make sense ) I dont know how else to explain it ,she said it has gone down ,well I went to see for myself and no it hasnt ,I told her so and I thought maybe she thought it did because she wants to believe he is getting better ,I said I didnt believe a 3 year old male cat should have a droopy stomach like that Im thinking its urine or poison ,,she did say the bleeding has stopped and he has never cried urinating at all, He was very active when I was there and allows me to touch his belly and pet him but I suggested she see the vet Monday or at least call them ,yo be continued
Your right ZQ, I hope the Vet did a C&S and confirmed an infection and not just write the old prescription without cause. Blood in the urine isn't always a bacteria, it can also be irritation from these crystals(the ones that cause the blockage)...and antibiotics won't do anything for than. Keep a eye out for kittys sake please.....if blood is still present after 3 days I would bet its not an infections issue...., she needs to be on the look out for straining to urinate, urinating outside the litter box and esp. for signs of pain, the pain will increase to excruciating.
♥Opus
I'm thrilled that she took the cat to the vet! Thank God!!! Let's all cross our fingers that it's not urine crystals that have caused all this!
Please let us know what she found out.

Hi Jeanette, yes, bless you for helping this poor kitty...or rather, for encouraging his owner to do the right thing. I'm relieved to get to the bottom of your posts and see the owner did take Otis to the vet, thankfully.
We will be waiting for your update :)
Well she wasnt home when I stopped in but did call me to say the cat was on an antibiotic ,she was very short and I didnt want to press ,I was just happy she took him in to the vet ,when she calms down about how much it cost her I'll ask her what it was and let you know ty
Splash acts like her normal self... and she has cysitis and a fractured pelvis and damaged nerves around her bladder, she is acting like nothing is wrong... Just cries because she is in a crate.
She had her shot this morning, and well... took her home, she staarted chasing her tail. haha, Is there any news on the cat??

thank you for responding ,I have a feeling this is what its going to be I will offer to drive them first thing in the morning because this belly thing has me so worried that its urine in that sac or poison ,I spoke to a few friends about it ,I had no idea how comman it was. Two of them lost their cats to a kidney stone on the operating table ,I also called around and may have found a program that will pay 50 percent for her because she is on a disability and may qualify ,so my plan is to visit and let her know how serious this is and keep pressuring her to see a vet a.s.a.p. and I will not leave untill she agree's lol and you are so right I am a animal person ,ty again and I will post when I know :)
Thank you for taking the time to write back ,this is all so serious and I will be seeing her in the morning and hoping she will let me take them to a vet, I'll be sure to keep you up date, I think I have found a program to pay 1/2 for her which is more than fair ,Ottis is acting like his normal self and I think that is why she is not seeing how crucial this is, Im hoping she doesnt wait any longer than the morning ty again
Thank you for the information and I hope yours has a speedy recovery Ive been ready up on a few things and will be seeing Ottis in the morning and try to talk her into doing something
Hi, I will start off by saying what a sweet, caring person you are for trying to look after your neighbor's cat. You're a true animal lover!!! =)
I do agree w/ Opus that it sounds like Ottis might have a urine crystal problem. I've had 2 male cats that have had this problem. One of my males became blocked, and had to get a catheter put in to clear his urethra. The urethra is where the crystals block the flow of urine. I got lucky, and so did my cat, that all it took was that one-time catheter to fix him up. It also took some special food to prevent the crystals from forming, and he had a full happy life after that one incident. If, and sometimes it does, it does recur, there are other treatment options available.
The question is, will your neighbor be able to afford the special food that Ottis will need? Or, will she able to afford additional treatment if it's needed? If you honestly think the answer is "no" to either of these questions, then please......try to talk her into finding Ottis another home. This condition can be fatal quickly if the cat becomes blocked and can't urinate....the bladder can rupture.
Please let us know how things turn out!! I hope Ottis feels better soon! Bless you for looking out for him!
blood in the urine is very likely a UTI (infection) and/or a condition called FLUTD....where there are cryslals present in the bladder and cause irritation and form a plug so urine cannot pass down the urethra....this needs to be looked at immediately, its not only VERY painful (if you've ever had a bladder infection you know what I mean) but also can be fatal if the urinary tract should become blocked or the infection spreads to the kidneys.
Its a simple urine test and exam, the costs shouldn't likely be more than $100 unless there are other complications.
please have this kitty looked after ♥
My cat has blood in her urine! She went to the vets yesterday she has a Urine/water infection... She needs to take him to the vets, because if left untreated can cause problems such as kidney infection.
Explain to the vets, that the cat has a possible UTI.. and that you know... the only reason my bill didnt cost much was because my cat was recently in an RTA and well has had problems since, She is still on crate rest... She has an emergancy apt tomorrow, due to sevre diahrehha (SP??)... and needs an Antibiotic shot. she is now weeing pure blood as well.... soo.
Can you not set up a payment plan? A certain amount a week??
The blood in the urine sounds like a UTI... but thats all I know!
