Not sure if the comments I sent to you on Aug 21st, got to you or not.Since I haven't heard from you. Sparky has never showed the typical symtoms that would lead one to believe that he had the urinary tract infection again, other than I know him so well and have that special bond. He's never cried when he urinates, no loss of appetite, no weight loss, nothing. He nevers complains(unless I don't take him out for his walks. Yes he walks with me on the sidewalk without a harness or leash. As I said none of my cats are outdoors. I have also thrown out all the old cat box's and bought 4 new one's and replaced all litter. Disinfected the scoopers and bought new one also. We scoop 2x aday, and will also dump once a week in the future. Hopefully putting all of the cats back on the Holistic Food will help him also. Hope to hear from you! Lynn
"Sparky" We will send you some "pics" of Sparky later. I've have researched symtoms of FUS,FLUTD, kidney stones ect. nothing "fits". His appetite, weight(he's alittle overweight, 2lbs.)ect.I keep coming back to the commercial food. His labs(urine lab) are interesting, I hope we can get them to you. I saw in the one lab that it showed, Leukocytes,Blood elevated. Also Bacteria in urine, a few"cocci". Also have lab for blood work. Lynn
History cont. Missy was 12 yrs old, adopted her in 1997, she was never a dobie that was accepting of cats until last Oct.2007. She developed a bond with the feral mother of Sparky(her name is Smoky), very unusal for a feral cat to do this.Missy developed even a closer bond with Sparky. Nov. Missy began to limp, we did everything from Holistic and Conventional medicine, she had bone cancer. Sparky would never leave her side. She was put down Dec. 3, 2007. At the exact moment, Sparky let out a "scream" for 1-2 min. that raised the hair on the back of my neck. I called my husband at the vet and asked him if they had just put Missy to sleep, he said yes. Sparky new. point is, that has been the only stress or change in the household. There are times(I know they say that cats don't think, I see him stare at her picture. Also due to expense of Missy's care we started feeding cheaper food. Yesterday I put them all back to the Holistic, in hopes this could be contributing to his problem. More later.Let me know about emailing labs
I will be providing you with more specifics, took Sparky to vet yesterday for a urinalysis check, comfirmed my feeling he wasn't feeling good. Some blood in urine, not as bad as before. I requested copies of his lab work when he was so bad. Interesting. Copy of urinalysis done yesterday. I, like you are very analytical, and will start researching and analylizing what things have changed within the last 6mo when he started to have this problem. Prior, no history as a kitten or young adult. All of this cats have been raised on a Holistic food. Eagle Pack, Holistic Select, chicken meal & rice formula, which includes chicken, anchovy & sardine meal, carrots, peas, apples, blueberries & cranberries, 7 omega health & skin conditioners. All natural. All the cats coats improved, energy, no health issues. I had not feed any commercial food to my Doberman (Missy) or the cats (we have 13). All indoor, spayed & neutered. I am on 6 acres, I have never let my Dobies( bred American & Can. champions) or my cats allowed to run loose, too many predators, lots of feral cats. Sparky is 1 of 5 out of a feral cat that adopted us 2 yrs ago. I'm running out of space, will continue later. Can we scan & email labs to you? Lynn
All right, I'm a little stumped on this one. My first thought is your cat has a kidney issue (which is my way of saying, it's the kidney, but I don't know what exactly is causing it). It could be genetic or environmental toxicity.
Usually with kidney issues infection tends to come up. Now, it is possible that the infection is so minor that it isn't picked up by the test...did they do a urine check for infection only or blood as well? It's also possible that the infection is in a nearby site/organ that's causing the kidney to swell and develop problems. This could, in turn cause the blood in the urine.
Before it spreads to the kidneys, wham! you knocked it out with the antibiotic.
My problem now is if this is the case, what would be the related organ/ area causing the problem, and I hesitate to guess. We're getting into internal medicine here that's a bit beyond me. If I HAD to guess, I'd start with the liver or bowels.
The only other issue i can come up with is a clotting issue, either genetic, or again, poison by environment (rat poison, for example, can act as an ant-coagulant. Is kitty an outside cat or do you use rat poison?
I hope this helps...
I just wanted to let you know i'm not ignoring this one, i just want to give it some thought. Your story is niggling at the back of my head and there's a thought in there somewhere on what it may be.
But it's all alone in there (big, empty space, my head) and if I chase it down it's likely to get scared and run off. :)
I'll be on tomorrow in the PM, unless someone beats me to this.
