cat abcess

a stray male cat showed up last night. Looks about 6months.  Has an abcess on tail about half down.  Has puss.  Don't know how to help it.  I have azithromycin 200 mg that pharmacist measured wrong. Can I use this for cat.

I agree with rouxmaker, just keep the area open, use a warm cloth and put it over the area, then press down and drain it. After a few days it will get better. I have a cat that gets them ALL the time, I used to take him into the vet each time but at $150 per visit I figured I would start doing it on my own. You don't need meds for the kitty if it starts to heal up after a few days, if the kitty it running a high temp or starts to look lathargic then take him in right away.

Keep the area open so it can drain. A abecess will heal over very quickly and u have to be sure puss drians out so slightly press on area  if possible. Antibotics will help it sneak it in his food

I agree with Opus. Can you take him to the vet? Are you feeding him? He could learn to trust you if you feed him. Then it would be easier to put him in a carrier and take it to the vet.
Please don't use any human medication on cats. It could kill him.

Good Luck!

OH Chas PLEASE DON'T use any human medications on kitty unless prescribed by a Vet in the correct dosage..this could be fatal for him!
He seriously needs to see a Vet and be prescribed something for this abcess and soon, it is badly infected if you see pus....anything topical that you may try would just be licked off, he needs a systemic antibiotic.
please let us know how the poor little guy does ok
best of luck to you both
