Ah, that does happen. It seems it's becoming more common than it used to, as I keep hearing this kind of thing more and more. It makes me if they've made changes to certain brands of cat foods.
None of the cats around here, for example, can eat wet friskies food. It causes immediate vomiting. I've gone through this with 15-20 cats before I stopped getting it. Which is to bad, since they do like it.
Ah well, I'm glad it worked out and was so easily cured. :)
i realize that this is months late but fyi ...
my cat looked like she had ringworm (hair loss raised sores etc)
and i brought her to the vet
turned out it was a food allergy to an additive in fancy feast
doc gave her a steroid shot and she hasn't had that prob since
just tossing in my 2 cents worth
I LOVE KITTIES

Could ii be mold or lead based paint chips/ I Live in an apartment full of mold
Yes - I agree with you Savas, sounds like parasites, mange/ringworm and is at a serious stage.
Stephygirl in my area the Humane Society runs a low/no cost clinic. Check the phone directory for your area and see if there is a local Humane Society and they may be able to direct you to a vet office/service that is afforadable or free.
Good luck with your kitty.
Quick thought;
If the cost of the vet is a problem, call around and explain the situation. Some vets will work with you. At the least, you can keep it under 70 to 100 dollars if you say you can't afford much, and can only deal with treating the specific parasite. You could also try contacting the local shelter to see about free vet services. Here in NY, they have a "Van" that goes to each neighborhood, and it offers free vet services to anyone below a certain income. You may have something like that where you live...
Ugh, sorry. I know the name of that parasite, but can't recall. But it does need a medicine only a vet can give. If it's at the point it's losing weight, usually within a few days or weeks the parasites attack the kidneys which shut down (causing a pretty painful death).
I'm not trying to scare you...and there's a chance I'm wrong...(could be a mixture of mange and ringworm and something else, but the parasites ores....that's a sure thing. Heck, I could just be plain wrong, but I've seen that pop up just like that a number of times).)
