lol it is out of love. she's our super fat bad cat.
Thanks for sharing that touching story of the beginning of Venus' life. That really is very special. It's wonderful how you guys took the extra steps to save her life. Now, she is a vibrant and healthy "bad fat cat". We love hearing your Venus stories, and we know you call her the "bad fat cat" out of pure love.
awwww how sweet a new bed for her b'day....I agree they are so special to us and you feeding and raising her like you did you would even have a 'closer' emotional attachment.
She was definitely your 'first' baby.
thanks for sharing this darling story.
we took venus when she was 2 weeks old b/c she was dying. her brothers and sisters wouldn't let her nurse, her mother was pushing her away and she had a tick attached to her leg which was sucking out her blood. even after the tick was removed she was still getting weaker and weaker. my mom took her from the farm and gave her to my husband and i. we've had her ever since and she' coming up on birthday number 2. i bottle fed her until she was 3 1/2 months old. i was 6 months pregnant when we got her and i got up ever 2-3 hours to feed her (my mom helped make sure she was going potty until she could go on her own). yeah it would have been better if she could have stayed with her biological mom but that wasn't an option. (if she had we wouldn't have our "daughter" right now) my husband and i are her mommy and daddy. she's just as important to us as our human children. (in fact she has her own bedroom and we're getting her a new bed for her birthday...we already bought all of her christmas presents when we found the new bed)
Foods...
At about 1 yr it is ok to switch to adult food. A good Adult Food will provide all the minimum nutrients needed for the Kitten to keep growing.
Remember, a cat will keep growing physically, mentally and emotionally for 3 human years from birth, as opposed to dogs who grow for 2 human yrs.
at age 1 it is equal to 15 human lives, age 2 =24, 3=28, 4=32 etc...
A kit should not be taked away from its mother before age of 3 mo. This gives Mom the time to feed, teach and discipline the kitten. Without this time with Mom, the Kitten will have problems adjusting to people and socialization.
It is at the age of 3 human yrs that a Kitten is considered a Cat. This is when their physical growing period usually stops. Even though many females will enter 'heat' as early as a6 mo old, they are still not matured. However, right after their first heat cycle is the best time to get them spayed.
I think we have to seperate our human way of thinking when deciding when any animal is an adult. In humans the so called civilised countries put the age at around 18-21. However, some cultures see humans as adults much younger. As soon as an animal is able to reproduce,, it is an adult. This is its main task, to reproduce and strengthen the chance of the specie surviving. I believe a human female is biologically able to reproduce at the age of 11-12 but due to our societies we say a human of that age is far too young to raise children. Of course I agree with this in humans, but cats obviously see things totally differently.
miss venus is....well there are no words to describe my naughty little girl. she is soooooo bad!!!
ohhh she is just going to be one of those very playful little girls and no doubt will keep this trait for years...I had a female ragdoll like that, she passed away at 8 but was still a kitten at heart!!
about the food manufactures...the food we get for venus (9 lives) is a "kitten food" but says it's for the growing years...0-3 years old.
i've heard people say 7-8 months. 1 year and 2 years as the end of the kitten stage. she is turning 2 and is as naughty a kitten as the day we got her when she was 2 weeks old. if anything she's more kitten like now then before. lol.
hi...I'm sure you'll get other opinions, I've always thought the kitten stage is over abt the 7-8month stage, thats usually when food manufactures urge a switch to adult food...also unaltered females can go into heat and reproduced at this 'young' age!! yes still babies..hope you get more answers
