my fur balls

Okay, I have two cats.

My one cat has an issue with blood in her poo and she sometimes throws up her food. I'v started giving her soft food only but I'm not sure if that will do the trick. Any advise??

so i took my cats to the vet last week and they found that th eone may have had an infection.. they don't think it was a reaction to the food but I did switch her food slowly. the doctor said that after the medication is done if she starts to bleed again we'll have to consider a strict diet...

she also had an infected tooth =( and was put on meds for that...

the good news is that the medication seems to be working as she is no longer has blood in her stools!! yay.

The other one lost two pounds with out reason so I had to increase his food intake to see if he gains weight and if not then he may have something else going on... but since I increased his food in take he seems to be happier!!! I feel really bad because I always thought I feed him too much to start with but it turns out I wasn't giving him enough.

Its a good thing I took them both! they seem to be doing better !!

Thank you for the help!

GO TO A VET!!!!!!!!!! i wouldnt wait for answers. the only answer i would wait for is the vets....make an appt. and before you go take the freshest poop and put it into a ziplock bag and give it to your vet.

Yes. I have found the right food for my cat. First of all, my vet said that cats with food allergies tend to be like our cats. I'm not sure why this is, but they get anxious, nervous.

To be sure Abby had IBD (Chronic Colitis) he went through a not so invasive Biopsy. A biopsy is expensive but it is the ONLY way for the vet to look inside your cat's insides and see what is going on. That's when the vet said Abby's colon (the large intestine) looked very bad with blood. Abby had diarrhea and blood in his stools since he was a little tiny kitten. Then I started researching with the help of my MH friends, and WE decided it was best to try a homemade diet. I followed instructions so my cat would not lack any nutrients. The first time I fed him a half cooked chicken his bleeding stopped, literally overnight. That's when I knew natural foods would not harm him, and so I slowly transitioned him to raw food. The website I gave you above has references to excellent raw food companies..only high quality stuff. We were doing great until I moved and Abby immediately stopped eating. It got to a point where his liver almost failed, and he had to have surgery and intensive treatment and care, including life support - A feeding tube.

Now I had two issues, fatty liver disease and IBD. I needed to find the PERFECT food for both conditions. That's when the vet talked to me about Hill's d/d - Duck and Green Peas formula. This food does not have any cra p that will give my cat allergies. It is extremely close to natural food, except it is dry although they have it canned. He is on this diet and is doing just great.

My boy has been through a lot, let me tell you. But I believe we found the right food choice for him. Now I just have to see how I can make him lose 2 lbs LOL.

Read the website. You will find lots of good info that will help you treat your cat yourself with no need to take her to a vet. As soon as you find a food that does not cause her to have loose stools and blood (I know, it's bright blood right? It's probably her colon) you will be all set.

Yes please, let me know how it goes. We are here to help. My cat and I have been through a lot due to his food allergies. It is not fun for the owner and very uncomfortable for kitty. And sometimes finding the right food choices isn't an easy task. Her colon is most likely very irritated. Is she an anxious cat? Jumpy? Nervous?

Good luck to you and your girl :-)

Thank you so much!!! I never even thought about food allergies!! Although it would make sense she is allergic to a lot of things!

I'll give it a whirl and let you know how it goes

I would stop the Purina and try Wellness or Royal Canin for sensitive stomachs.

If your cat has food allergies these foods may help. Go on this website and take a look at all the high quality foods that may be available to you. I love this website.

I would take it one step at a time. Switch diets slowly. It should be a slow transition.  I have an IBD cat. In other words, I own a cat who is allergic to most foods out here, including Purina and Science Diet.  I got his bleeding and loose stools to stop with homemade meals, then raw foods, and now, because he got very ill (not diet related) I had to change his diet so his liver would get back on track. Luckily, this food also works wonders for cats with food allergies, who experience what your cat is going through. The food is Hill’s d/d.

Good Luck.

kdaily,

Poor kitty. What are you feeding her? After you give me that info we'll take it from there but your cat probably has food allergies.

first of all welcome to the cat forum, I hope you enjoy this site and continue to participate.
Are kitties stools really hard?...sometimes a hard stool can leave a small tear in the anus and cause small amount of blood.
Is the blood a bright red color?
Has kitty been dewormed lately?
As far as the vomiting, does she gobble her food too quickly? Do you give her hairball treatment?...a lodged hairball can sometimes be the reason for throwing up.
These are only guesses on my part, it would probably be a good idea for kitty to see her doctor and have a good check up.
