I am hoping that someone can help us, we're worried about our cat. She is 3 years old and seems to have developed some type of skin problem, or something causing her to bite, scratch and lick herself all the time now. We recently had to move from our house in the country (nice and quiet) with just me, my boyfriend and our other cat, there she could go outside to a screened in porch or a 3 season porch anytime she wanted to. Because of circumstances we had to take our cats to my in-laws home, it is a mobile home in a noisy mobile home park. They also have a Jack Russell that is 5 years old and misbehaved (to put it nicely), he barks all the time and even bites. My in-laws refuse to believe that their house is infested with fleas because they treat their dog with Frontline and so we were told they were flea free, we asked before taking them there because last summer our car seemed to have an allergy problem and we basically narrowed it down to fleas. Well within 1 week of being there both of our cats were loaded with fleas, eggs and larvae! So it took another week or so until we could afford the Frontline for them and by then our female cats was scabs from head to toe and constantly licking, biting and chewing herself to death but it did help for a few days she seemed more at peace. Unfortunately it didn't last long, so I gave her a bath and that made no difference except she was upset with me. Now 4 weeks later my in-laws decided they were moving the litter box and changed their kitty litter and food to a new brand. Last night I noticed that the litter box hadn't been used much since the last time I cleaned it and that was 2 days before so I went and got my cat and put her in the box and while I was sitting there I noticed she was eating a few of the pieces of kitty litter (just maybe 3-4 pebbles) then she went pee and bounced out of the room. We aren't able to stay the night with our cats but a couple nights a week, so the changes are obvious to us but not to my in-laws who say she had been eating the litter for "at least a week now" but felt no need to tell us. Her personality seems about the same except she doesn't want me to hold her but when I do she her body seems very warm and tries to jump down. I am worried from what I read online about cat illnesses/diseases and her eating litter and was hoping for some suggestions from someone. Right now I cannot afford to take her to the vet for about a week but she is family to us, she's our baby. I think she has a combonation of problems: 1) Stress - from the move, the dog, my father-in law (loud alchoholic) and the load trailer park. 2) Allergies - Fleas, food, dust, dog dander. 3) Maybe Anemic - eating cat litter and chewing at skin/fur all the time. Does anyone know what I can do to help her besides move her to a better enviroment, treat for fleas and change the food and litter back to what it was before the problems arised?
