sick kitty
my 4 yr old male cat has recently caught a cold. he seems to be doing alright, he has been drinking and eating still. not like he normally does,but he does. The thing is is that I had been treating him for ear infections for the last two weeks. after the treatment was over he started sneezing. I called the vet to follow up on that treatment and told her about his cold. The vet told me that it could be an respriatoy infection. Im a waitress and depend on my tips from night to night and buisness has been slow, and the vet doesnt do payment plans. So I cant afford to take my cat to the vet now. I just want to know how long does a cat cold last and what are some symptoms of something more serious like pneumonia?

I'm so sorry your kitty is sick and your income does not allow for veterinary care. It does sound like an Upper Respiratory Infection. Unfortunately, this condition will not improve if left untreated. In any case, it will most likely get worse. For the most part, cats who recover from the virus have the potential to become carriers, making it difficult for you to own another kitty. If you have another cat you must isolate the sick one because the disease is airborne. Even isolating the sick kitty will make it virtually impossible for other cats to stay healthy, but lets keep our fingers crossed.
In addition, is your vet the only one close to where you live? I would do some research on vets in your area, close to where you live, and start asking them if they have payment plans. I know this may sound a bit drastic, but if you have a credit card this could be your ultimate resource since credit cards DO HAVE payment plans. Other than that, perhaps your local ASPCA can help you by providing your kitty with the necessary veterinary care at low cost.
Other symptoms of a kitty with URI include coughing, runny nose and watery eyes. Antibiotics is one of the things that could help your cat get through this, but you'd have to go to the vet.
For home remedies and alternatives, here is a link, but I would ask a vet first. Not that I don't trust home remedies. It's just for confirmation purposes. You don't want to waste your time on something that may not work for your cat although it may work for others.

I have not been using the ANTI-FUNGAL to treat his cold. and it hansnt been confirmed that he has a URI. I just wanted to know waht are some signs of somthing more serious.
Cats do NOT get colds like we do-we get cold viruses that eventually go away. Cats get respiratory infections that are caused by bacteria and need antibiotics. I am sorry to tell ya this, but this will not just go away-your cat needs antibiotics that are different from the ones that were used for your cat's ear infections.
Will your vet take post-dated checks? Or, you can look into a special credit card for pet care only called Carecredit. I hope that you'll be able to work something out!
