sally, what your Vet gave kitty is most likely an injection of a steroid, unfortunately this is what most Vets do....it will help for a few days or weeks but is NOT a permanent answer..and please don't keep repeating these injections it will only lead to your kitty becoming diabetic.
I agree...the sores are due to overgrooming, and all started out as a flea bite allergy, as you may have read on the older thread I posted...
however as with all allergies what started out as a flea bite allergy has now become an allergy to other contaminates such as inhalants, food or environmental.
grains in the food are a common culprit, if you are feeding a diet with grains please change to one without..(sold at petsmart or other good pet stores)
also stop using the flea treatment collar and sprays....if flea treatment is needed use an oral one avail from your Vet.
I hope this works for your poor kitty, I can imagine how irritating it is to itch all the time....good luck, keep us posted.
thanks alot for your help, i means alot to me, a big thank you, sallyx
well i took my cat to the vets, i payed £ 26.00 and the sores on her back where due to over grooming, as their tounges are like sand paper, they lick away the skin, so she had injection & she is 10 times better 2day, she has an allergy to fleas & it only takes 1 to make them lick like crazy, so hope this helps anyone who is having the same prob
found this for a more natural flea control...

I am so sorry that your kitty is suffering so badly with fleas....I will send you a chart, click on the names of the products you are using and it will give you more info on whats in them and which ones are less toxic...some are safer than others. I suspect that kitty has developed an allergy either to the chemicals you are using OR to the fleas....
can you try and stop using any chemicals for awhile and just get one of those small toothed combs and try combing the fleas out?...poor baby she is suffering, she may need to be kept inside for awhile to help clear this up...?

is your cat an outdoor cat? does she have fleas?
If no fleas are present I wouldn't be using the flea collar continually...as these can cause an irritation....
the problem your kitty has unfortunately is quite common. there was another post this morning that posted on an OLD thread. this thread is recommended reading and I will send it too you(just click on the blue link). Its not necessary to read way back to the original post of 2007, I recommend reading the most recent posts and following the links, if we can help with additional questions please be free to post again....good luck.
