spayed kitty acting like she's in heat?
my girl venus, has been acting stranger than usual the past few days. granted she's an odd girl. but lately she's been acting like she's in heat. she is spayed. i've had other female cats (all spayed) that have never acted like this. she rubs her bum on everything...flicks her tail and does that weird cry. is it possible for her to be in heat even though she's spayed?
What a sweet and amazing story! thanks for sharing this :) My long-spayed, 14 yr old 1/2 Siamese girl, "Matahari" has always been a character and quite vocal, but just these last couple days is yowling like she's in heat when she goes into another room than the one I'm in. When she comes back, she looks at me and gives her normal tiny, high pitched one. It's so weird. She does seem to have a little crush on a black cat that wanders the hallways of my apartment building here, though. She seems to want to go out there to just touch noses with him when he's out there. I keep her inside almost all the time, though, since we have coyotes in this area and I don't want her to end up as their dinner! I guess she will just have to be satisfied with the occasional supervised nose-rubbing with her black beau for now!
i swear venus' mother mated with a dog. she had to of!!! venus is a freaking retriever! lol. greg was tossing her little squishy ball around and he threw it behind the computer desk into a pile of papers. the little nut went after it, dug through the papers and took the ball back to greg. she's a dog. sorry ladies and gentlemen but i'm going to have to take venus' antics to the dogs forum from now on. lol.
yeah...her big ol' but got stuck...well i don't even think it was the but. i think it was her hips. lol. it was hilarious watching her front half just hang there while her back half laid in the crib.

i figured those who enjoy the antics of venus would REALLY enjoy this.
she has learned that she can squeeze her big body through small spaces. *sigh* very small spaces. this morning she ran into the nursery with greg and i when we went to get the boys out of their cribs. well she jumped on my glider and into eli's crib. no big deal we figured she'd just jump back out. nope she didn't. she somehow squeezed that big ol' head of hers through one of the slats. she couldn't pull it back out so she had to keep going. so she put one paw through and one shoulder. then wiggled the other out and was half in the crib half out. lol so there is the wiggling kitty pulling with front legs then pushing with her big ol' but. she figures she has one way to go. forward. *sigh* now venus is NOT a small cat. she's a big girl. she has big hips and a big but. well she gets her middle through and gets to the hips. lol. took her a good 5 minutes to wiggle and squirm just one leg and a hip out. greg and i are laughing hysterically. i mean it was the FUNNIEST thing i've ever seen. i was laughing so hard i was crying. even boog and bug were laughing. well she finally gets her other leg out and runs downstairs. we take the boys down and set them on the floor to play. i turn around and venus is sitting on the comp desk GLARING at me and greg like "how dare you not help me and laugh at me!!!" her big fluffy tail is swishing. she's extremely aggitated. *sigh* i paid for laughing later. i was making the beds. when i got to mine and gregs she did this lunge from UNDER our blankets and attached herself to my head. she scared the pee right out of me. i'm lucky i don't have a pee stain on my carpet upstairs right now.

They wouldn't do u/s in front of you. If her belly is shaved, then they did do the ultrasound. You need to know that u/s won't always show leftover ovaries. What I would do is keep a close watch on her "heat" and mark it on your calendar. Mark the day she starts, and mark it on the calendar again the next time it starts. If you see a pattern (like our periods), then you know for a fact that she is in heat. If she's in heat, then there is w/out question leftover ovary in there.

She went through a false pregnancy; she gain weight and looked pregnant. she made a nest, and even made milk. I took her to the vet, he checked her out and told me he doesn't feel any kittens, and when Katie thinks she should be giving birth she'll relies she isn't pregnant and go back to her old self.

yeah he believed me and doesn't understand why she's doing that other than being weird. i'm not sure if it was an u/s or not the tech took her to another room to do it. they would've just done the u/s in front of me wouldn't they? but whatever they did they said nothing's left in there.

well my crazy kitty went to the vet yesterday. god the little tubby gained 3 lbs! lol. she weighs 13 lbs now! but he did a complete check up on her, did some scan (i can't remember what it's called) and said she is completely perfect. so when he asked what her behavior has been like...i told him EVERYTHING the little nutter does. he just looked at me like i was lying!!! lol. he was like.."really?" i just said yeah. so to prove it i made him stay in the exam room with me for 20 minutes. he saw that she's a little nut. about 5 minutes of us waiting for her to be....well her he believed me. lol. she was laying on the exam table pretending to be asleep and when i turned my back she just lunged at me and attached to my back. climbed up my back (i'm now considering having her declawed) and sat on my shoulder like a giant 13 lb parrot. so i detached her from my body and sat her down on the ground and sat down on one of the chairs she rubbed up against the doctors legs and suddenly attacked his knee cap. so he had to detach her from his body. THEN she started the weird meowing and rubbing her bum on everything. by time we left the doc and his assistants were cracking up. *sigh* he said i just have an oddball cat.
Speaking of cleaning....I'm taking both Abby and Dillan in next year. I am scared. But it's necessary. But it really isn't my cuppa tea, having to take them for this...ugh...
It was just shocking when we found out that some of the ovary was left in!!! My mom's cat was abandoned because she was acting obnoxious because she was in heat! The people did not know that she was in heat....all they knew was that they had gotten her spayed. Instead of taking her to the vet to see what was up, they just threw her out the door......AND she was declawed. She had no way of protecting herself! Thank God, my family got her!

Have to make sure she is fit to go under anesthesia for a dental cleaning. I am praying she does not need any teeth pulled, but I wouldn't be surprised; her teeth are just awful!

oh don't feel bad!!! i'm glad you told me! if it is something like that and i didn't take her to the vet and something happened to her i'd never forgive myself.
her vet is in office at 10 so i'm gonna call him then.

OMG, I am feeling horrible right now because I scared you! I am sorry. I just wanted to let you know what happened to our cat. That piece of ovary that was left in our cat had been there for years before anyone did anything about it. If, God forbid, some ovary was left in Venus, you will be catching it much sooner!!! =D It won't get the chance to turn bad! Besides, our cat lived 8 more yrs after that incident!!! She was put down 2 months ago from kidney failure!
Venus will be just fine! Who knows, maybe she's just acting like a weirdo and this is just a new thing for her! LOL

I've got to say, this is a funny, but serious story. Just imagining Venus doing all that and you guys yelling at her makes it all more fun to read. Please let us know what the vet says about that. And, I hope this is just her being a pain on the neck. I'd hate to have my cat go through surgery so soon because the vet didn't do a complete work.

zodiac it does scare me but thank you for telling me! i had no idea that some of the ovary could be left! that never even crossed my mind! i'll definitely be giving her vet a call tomorrow! it's just so odd. she hasn't done it today...she's actually been hiding somewhere because well she must have done something bad and knows i'm going to eventually figure out what it was she did. but she did it last night. i was laying in bed and the nasty thing tried to rub on my foot. lol. she got a swift boot to the bum to! as she went running out of the room i just yelled "YOU WEIRDO!!" then i heard dh go "OH GOD STOP THAT!!! GET OFF MY LEG!!!" so she musta been rubbing on his leg. lol i just giggled. that's when she came running back upstairs. jumped in bed and crawled under the blankets and went to bed. so i don't know if maybe it was a phase or what but i'm calling her vet tomorrow to ask for an appointment for her to get checked out. i definitely don't want her to have a tumor or be sick. she may drive me bonkers but i do love my fuzzy but.

The vet might not have gotten all of her ovaries out when they spayed her. All it takes is a little bit of ovarian tissue to throw them into heat again. Yes, it sounds crazy, but it happened to my mom's cat. She had been acting like she was in heat for years, and her previous owners got rid of her for it. We ended up getting her and took her to the vet. Sure enough, our vet found the piece of ovary. It turned into a malignant tumor. Thankfully the tumor had a capsule around it so she was fine and lived to be 15 yrs old.
I'm sorry if this scares ya, but I just wanted you to be aware of what could happen. I'd take her to the vet and get it checked out.
PS-That special meow-cry they do is a dead give away that they are in heat. Ain't no mistaking that! LOL
