Oh yeah, I had the same thing happen with a severe headache....and one side of my face drooped....so hard to deal with when Drs have no answers....
Glad to hear your PCP is a good one.
I have heard others with a syrinx that had symptoms worsen very rapidly as well.....I know how scary that can be....
She will always be your baby....I have one at 31 yrs no grand babies yet but a grand puppy...loll....
Sending prayers and healing MoJo for her continued positive recovery <3
Her doctor is dr. Mahoumed Rahman at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur, Il. I don't know if he is or considers himself a Chiari specialist, but Nisa's was the 43rd procedure he's done. I do know he spotted and diagnosed her Chiara immediately, and seemed very knowledgeable about the treatment of the condition. She had somehow aggravated her Chiara a couple weeks prior to seeing him, lifting the end of a go-kart. Her headaches worsened, and then her face went numb, severe dizziness, nausea, etc. ER told her it was Bell's Palsy. (You all know this song and dance). It was actually our little small town general practitioner who told her he disagreed with that diagnosis and sent her to Rahman for the MRI's. He found a 13mm syrinx descending nearly to shoulder level, tonsillar herniation completely blocking fluid circulation. A decompression was scheduled for mid-September.
Actually, I should probably put all this in a separate post. To answer your question, her condition escalated to critical and emergency surgery was done Aug. 29. She was very near paralysis by then. She is recovering slowly, the surgery went well, but it will be some time before we know the full results because she was so very critical at the time of the surgery. It was just a harrowingly rapid decline over a space of just a few days! But she is alive, no further damage occurred during surgery, and Dr. Rahman is absolutely delighted with her recovery so far. She is one tough little lady.. (Should note she is my baby even tho she is a 44-year-old mother of two.)
Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.
With some changes that are being made to MedHelp at this time ,the list is not readily available to the members...I have access to it and add names and delete names and post portions of the list for the members.
May I ask when your daughter had her surgery? Who is the Dr, as they may be on our list already?
How is your daughter doing now?
