Anxious about mailing only copy of my dd12 MRI to The Chiari Institute

My dd12 was dx with CM in Sept 12. She hasn't really had any symptoms but I do want to get her an appointment with a nl that specializes in CM. I sent in paperwork to The Chiari Institute to get an appointment and hopefully be covered by insurance. They need a copy of her MRI to see if she is a candidate. It is the only copy I have so I have this weird anxiety about sending it to them. Will I get it back? I am anxious about starting this whole process because I truly can not afford to pay out of pocket for anything. I am a little fearful of them suggesting procedures that aren't necessary and I'm left having to pay the bill. Thanks for any advice.

you will get it back they are very well organized and personable at the institute after one visit they all remembered my name and they understood the financial aspect of everything its only been a month since dr b did my surgery but as of yet i only have bills from the surgery of maybe 500 dollars and that was a 3 part surgery if you do decide to go through the institute look into north shore hospitals fundraising program phone number is (516)465-2550 i didnt look into it because i heard about it after all was said and done

Hi Maddy.....
You can easily get another copy of your daughters MRI films and report by requesting them from the facility who did the tests so let your mind be at ease on that. As far as recommending unnecessary procedures, you are taking her somewhere good that specializes in this, it's not likely but you can always get a second opinion from another Neuro surgeon. Your daughters symptoms will also be a guide in knowing if she needs an intervention. I know how hard it can be as a mom and an advocate to make these decisions. Hang in there, you're doing a good job :-) Lisa
