Anyone else get a weird 'swooshing' noise at back of neck?

Sounds weird, but bare with me! You know when you force liquid through the teeth and it makes that hissing/swishing sound? Does anyone get that noise but feel it's coming from the top of your throat/where the chairi is? I always think it it's like csf trying to push through? I get it a few times a day - anyone else? If so anyone know why?

I have this though I think it's something to do with my cervical instability. Whenever I roll my right shoulder backwards or if I place my head in a certain position and do deep breaths, it'll make that swooshing sound at the back on my neck / head. It only started back in August after I woke up with a stiff neck from sleeping wrongly. Then I noticed my neck started making crunching / grinding noises whenever I rotate my head. And now it's got this hissing sound.

Physio claim it's due to my weak neck muscles and suggested doing daily neck exercises.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.
May I ask when you got a diagnosis of cervical  instability? And did they say what the cause was? EHlers-Danlos possibly?
Sorry it wasn’t an official diagnosis but based on hours and hours of Google searches and YouTube videos, I came to that conclusion. So far, I did get an X-Ray checked and the doctor says my spine looks fine besides a slight fibrosis in my C7 which shouldn’t have anything to do with what I’m experiencing in my neck. So that was the end of that.

I went to an acupuncturist / TCM person who claims I’ve got a case of bone on bone grinding (which explains the sound) due to one of my bone being out of alignment but his claim was made purely from feeling / pressing on my neck without an X-Ray. Did several acupuncture session and bone manipulation but no results so I stopped.

I have never heard of Chiari so I apologise for commenting in the wrong section as I was trying to look for others who are experiencing the same symptoms as I am. Still trying to look for answers to this frustrating ordeal.
No worries....have you posted in any of the other forums here?
Maybe the Neurology forum would be a good place to try?   https://www.medhelp.org/forums/Neurology/show/74

Did you have an injury to your neck? Just trying to figure out the best forum for you to try next.
No injury besides waking up with a stiff neck from sleeping on the couch. Thanks for the link. Will look around at the Neurology section.

Hi Rosie....many have said they hear fluid swooshing/ bubbling or moving...most claim it sounds like it is in the neck.....

Some say it could be the CSF building up....I am not sure....but you are not alone in hearing that sound.
