Back Pain

Evening all...My ds has been doing pretty good..3 wks post op today.  Started back at preschool, he has had a few problems but we have been working through it.  But he has been saying the last couple of days about his back hurting again.  So worried that this is the pulled cord that NS said not to worry about.  Not sure what to do...any advice is very appricated

Thanks

HI...may I ask...is he eliminating waste regularly?.....and the right amount?

This can cause back pain too!

I pray this is just part of the healing process and nothing else....

HI

I have to say that after surgery the first pain I noticed that came back was the back pain. As soon as I got up and moved around, there it was. Next, came all the joint and muscle pain back too, the more I got back into my daily life. I have wondered many times, is it really worse than before or is it just that I am not focusing on my headaches and spastic legs as much anymore? I still don't really have an answer to that one. I think that sometimes the meds after surgery give a false sense of relief combined with the fact that we are not doing normal activites so that gives the symptom relief also. This may be what is happening with your DS now that he is back at preschool, running and playing...The good news- there may not be anything that is causing it specifically, the bad news- he still has to deal with pain!!
You are following the right direction, as far as I'm concerned if you are in pain then your body is telling you something. I am determined to figure out what that is. I am so sorry that you have to watch him go through pain like that...
Did you speak to the NS about cutting back on activities? Did he think that may help? Also is there any relief options that he can offer in the meantime while you wait? I would ask him those questions if you haven't already.
Please vent anytime....you are doing the right thing by keeping on top of it!

Well change of plans again.  NS wants to watch him for a few more weeks, not sure I totally agree.  But I also understand that this could work itself out, could be just trauma from just having surgery.  This is so hard as you all know..I hate watching him being in pain and not being able to do a thing.

NS says that the first lumbar MRI was fine..cord pulled/tight but no tether, so he doesnt think the back pain is related.  What else can it be from..he had back pain before surgery did not mention it everyday like the headaches, but I think the headaches were worse.  How can a 5 year old have back pain that keeps him up at night and wakes him up at night?  What else could it be??

Sorry..needed to vent this out

Thanks everyone..Ds has taken a few steps back this last few days.  Backpain, headaches and now the swollen deep redness around the eyes have returned.  Spoke with Dr office this morning.  Because of the distance we live our Reg dr will check him and report to NS

I have TC also and I get back pain when I try to do too much walking and or reaching/bending...depending on what ur DS is doing during the course of the day, it just may be too much too soon after surgery....and he may need to step back a little on what it is he is doing......

Deff call the dr, but do try to cut back on his activities......preschool may be too much right now........I know I am a lot older and I also have these issues, but I would not have been able to go newhere that soon after my surgery.....

I pray ur DS feels better soon

Hello

I'm glad to hear that for the most part that your DS is doing well. I am sorry to hear that his back is hurting again...that was one of the first problems I had post op too, once I cut back on the meds. I wish I had an explaination for you but I am still trying to find one myself. If he is dx with TCS then I would say that you have a valid concern and I would contact the NS about it. One of the things I always see about TCS is that it causes chronic back pain. At this stage of the game I think you have ever right to call about any concerns you may have.
Good luck-keep us posted!
