Hi...if this is an issue for u, u may want to see about modifying ur diet...I on the other hand have had IBS for yrs...I either can't go or can't stop going....
Like in the AM of my surgery I ran so many times I am sure there was nothing left until I started to eat on the 3 rd day post op....

lol I know they sure are! I guess I'm glad i brought it up =-P
wow wee! The topics that are covered here are just amazing! lol....I'll remember to take my softeners!
Did anyone change their diet prior to having surgery so say you wouldn't have to go #2? My husband tends to think this is a good idea...just in case he says....any suggestions?
The best thing is to ask about taking a stool softener like senokot to help so u strain less......
Even after susrgery the drs advise the use of one...but b4 surgery it is just as important.
oh wow! I so love this forum LOL thanks for sharing!! I guess I'll listen Carolyn..and take them laxatives lol . I do get a little dizzy but not to the point Neava is describing. The pressure thought, OUCH !
Same here...especially if it is a difficult one (LOL)...I totally feel the pressure go up in my head and the pounding. That`s why it is good for us to make sure that we eat a lot of fibre and drink lots of water..to help things. A good point for those who are having surgery soon...make sure you take those laxatives!! Being constipated after surgery is killer (trust me I know!)

When I have a BM my left leg goes numb and pins and needles. Its the weirdest thing. Then it stays like that for almost an hour afterwards. No wonder why the dr always asked if I had a problem going #2.....lol.
b4 my surg everytime I had a BM I got very dizzy, cold sweats, felt like I would pass out and my neck hurt. When I started vomiting everytime I had a BM I figured it was time for help
I can remember being a kid having this issue and it is one of those things no one talks about....so how r we to know it is not normal.....

i agree with that, i get it also,
i got it in both arms once and called my husband to ring an ambulance, i had my time of month as well, so he thought i must be really bleeding and paniced, opppps,
it took a few minutes to calm down, but i got really dizzy as well, even after,
thats when things started getting bad for me.
now i just get it in my left arm, and i think ohh god here we go, back to hospital, but then its suddenly gone
I agree with selma, it is not so much the bowel motion as the straining during bowel motion. Obviously anyone experiencing bowel problems should get checked by a doctor.
Straining with bowel motion (Valsalva manoeuvre), coughing and sneesing can cause problems for people with CSF obstruction.
Straining will also increase your BP and this could explain the symptoms you describe...

Oh I know...and it was during for me as well...as I said it is the strain of actually going that triggers it....it may affect ur vagus nerve that u feel it in ur arm.
That is what is sooooooooo great about this forum...we know we r not alone with these weird symptoms.

well whats weird it happens before and during the BM. I would think it is. I am still amazed at how many thing come up with all of our posts. I was reading Sheilas post with the water running down her back feeling and i was like OMG me too!
Hi...yes I am sure it is related as the pressure from straining is the real culprit here, not the BM...I always got intense HA's while going...I had no idea as a child this was not a normal issue so I never mentioned it.
