Chiari 1 Malformation with Epilepsy issues/surgery

I have Chiari 1 Malformation, and nocturnal epilepsy(meaning I only have seizures in my sleep, but every time I have one I stop breathing) 3 years ago I was talking to my neurologist and they mentioned the Chiari Malformation decompression surgery, and now it is being brought up again. I have a 6 year old son and a 2 year old daughter and I'm terrified of something going wrong and me not waking up. My husband is trying to be as supportive and reassuring as possible but I'm terrified I wont make it. Anyone have someone who didn't make it? What was the cause? any one have a good outcome? With me being epileptic I am absolutely terrified.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.
I know we have had other members that also had epilepsy...but I do recall at least one developed it post op....I would have to do a search of older threads to see who else had it and how things were for them....I am not sure we have any current member outside of yourself with this as an additional condition. I did have surgery back in '09 and would do it again if it was needed....I strongly suggest you talk with a true Chiari specialist.....not just a NS that will do the surgery as it is very important that they understand not only how the Chiari will impact you but what you already know you have in addition and they need to also rule out ALL related conditions as well.
