Chiari Malformation decompression & after

I have had the decompression surgery but now feel my Chiari symptoms are coming back.  The ct scan showed everything is fine - has anyone else had this.

I was also DX'd with IBS...so I can relate.....meds as well as stress can also have an effect on IBS and how it affects us.

EDS is Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and it is a connective tissue disorder many Drs believe may be the reason many of us have Chiari....it is a related condition and those that have it may reject foreign materials...this can cause infection, and patch failure and a increase in CSF production so many Drs place a shunt.

I would ask if they know if you have EDS and the relation btwn the 2......

Also ask for a follow up MRI to be done to see how things are progressing....

Do you know what type of dura patch was used ? Many that have developed similar issues to you and had a shunt place found they had EDS after the placement.....if you do have EDS it could explain the issues you are having.

If you are one year post op, have you had a MRI recently? Had a follow up?

Hi whatfun and welcome to the Chiari forum.

May I ask what all was done during your decompression? Laminectomy, dura plasty? And were ALL related conditions ruled out b4 surgery?

Lastly how long since your surgery?
