Stitches or Staples?

Hello everyone! Am quite new here so I apologize in advance if this has been asked before, but I had my surgery last year August, to be more specific I had a suboccipital craniectomy, C1-C2 laminectomy, expansion duraplasty, and decompression performed on me. And when I did my initial research about chiari, all the post-op pics I found were patched up using the classic stitches, so I was quite surprised to find out when I woke up that I had surgical staples instead.

So my question is just a simple "Did you have stitches or staples?" :)

And why are stitches more popular? Is there a significant difference between stitches and staples for chiari surgeries? Can someone please kindly explain this to me :( To be honest when I saw the stitched up incisions it scared me a bit because of all the bunched up skin, but looking at my staples it seemed pretty badass as well so it was all good. Also, whenever I show someone a photo of my staples I'd always say I got them from Best Buy hahahaha. Aw man, I'm sorry if I talk too much. You don't even have to read this part, just answer away! Please feed my curiosity! Thankyou!

Oooooh, that does make sense, TIL.

And yeah I've heard of that term before but didn't think too much of it 'cause like I mentioned, I only kept seeing stitched up post-op pics before I had my surgery (huh, weird).

Thanks for this explanation though! Shed a light on a few things I had in mind :)

What is used to close depends not only on the Drs choice/preference but on the patient and what the Dr feels is the best option...statples are commonly used and that is why many refer to those tht have had the PFD surgery to zipperheads...the staples  leave the scar looking like a zipper.

So, I did not have stitches or staples...I had surgical glue and sterri strips.

My incision was quite large as I had tissue harvested for my dura patch.

Both of these issues are also bcuz I have EDS which is what caused my Drs to choose these for me.....and is why I say rule out ALL related conditions as they can affect recovery.

Oh wow, I think I remember mine being the same length? But when they took it out the incision was a lot smaller, I think they just oversize the bandage (I actually had a cast-like casing around mine) so there's extra room? Let us know when you have them removed! :) And yes, I'm really curious as well haha!

i woke up thinking i would have staples myself and came to find out they did plastic surgery to close me up stitches on the inside and skin glued on the outside i havent gotten to see it yet it is still in a covering till it comes off after 5 days . the bandage does go from the middle of the back of my head to the bottom of my neck so im curious how long the incision really is. so on stiches or staples i couldnt vote :( im curious to read everyones opinions though :)
