Well wait and see what ur Chiari specialist has to say,,,..I find it interesting that so many say we need this surgery for carpal and tarsal tunnel...and they ignore the chiari.....

BTW- I had the tarsal tunnel surgery, I required a 2nd surgery as it was done wrong, and it left me with perm nerve damage in that foot....so, do make sure u talk to another Dr and get more then one opinion.

I also want to welcome you to our little community here.  It is a wonderful place to get info and so much loving support.  You mentioned that you have an appt on the 5th and one suggestion I would like to give you is to start a list of questions that you have.  Once we get into our visits us Chairian tend to forget.  I also had a health partner go with me to all appt's because they can vouche for what is going on and they will remember things that we tend to forget.  I know making a list for me helped a lot and it also saves time in getting answers.  I want to wish you the best of luck and now your not alone in this joureny.  All of us who have Chairi completely understand what you are going through.  Wishing you the best on the 5th.  I will be thinking of you.  Let us know of your updates or any other questions you might have.
Linda :)

How were u dx'd with the carpal tunnel......did they do an EMG? The reason I ask is bcuz I was dx'd with tarsal and carpal tunnel yrs ago, and after I was dx'd with  chiari a EMG test showed I did not have tarsal or carpal tunnel and the issues were all Chiari related.

Make sure they check u for all related issues b4 they give u a decision on the course of action.,,..so expect more testing.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

As Dana mentioned in her above post, u will need a CINE  MRI to see if u have a CSF obstruction....u also want to know if u have overcrowding, or a syrinx in ne area of ur spine and ne other related condition.

The size of ur herniation may ring bells for some Drs, but it is not how long it is that is of concern, but how it is affecting CSF flow.

Many with Chiari also have other related issues, like sleep apnea, disk issues, tethered cord, ICP, POTS, ehlers-danlos...low vitamin levels as well as minerals and thyroid conditions.

So some of ur conditions may be chiari or one of the related conditions.

Finding a Dr that is a Chiari specialist is key...use our list to research Drs that our members have been to and liked...keep in mind the list is not a referral and not all on the list may be true chiari specialists....so educate urself on what the drs should be looking for  and questions they should be asking so u will know when u find that Dr that is right for u.

Know u r not alone....we r here <3
