They are all different, but mine was not much! I have mid to longer hair. I kept mine down and you could not see it. Then as it healed when I wanted to wear it up I was able to clip the new growth up with pony tail and it blended and no one could even tell! It's been a year and I'm pretty surprised at how well it's growing in!
What you will notice the most, is combing your hair back there will be odd, a numb but yet tender feeling at the same time for 6 to 12 months! It's hard to explain the feeling.
mine was next to nothing! a bit over an inch wide an around three or four inches long straight up the center in the back. you couldn't even tell i had had surgery!! pictures are on my profile
although every surgeon is different - my hair loss was VERY minimal! i have long hair so it hides it completely.
check out my pictures!! i have posted some through the 'healing process'!!

Hi and welcome to the chiari forum.
It all depends on ur dr and the staff that shaves ur head....and if the surgery is an endoscopy PFD or a reg PFD.....
I also worried about my hair, my NS told me not to cut it and to tie into a pony tail....I had quite a bit shaved bcuz I had skin harvested for my patch from my scalp.
Talk to ur dr...plus, the longer it is now, the easier it is to cover the scar until the hair all grows back.
May I ask who ur chiari dr is?
We do have a list of drs and we like to add new oes that r not on when possible.
We r happy to have u join us here, but sorry for the reasons u had to seek us out.
Post ur surgery date on the thread for that...we like to post a Prayer Thread for members having surgery : )
