Hi! I sent you a personal message asking about Dr. Powers. I guess he might not be a good person to see?
allaboutmom - my appointment with Dr. Powers is Feb 4th and I'm seriously reconsidering it and thinking about going to see Dr. Madera at John's hopkins in Baltimore. This Dr. Henderson that everyone loves is not a provider on my insurance so I can't see him :(
Looks like we're in the same predicament! This *****!
Wow. Thanks, Molly. Do you live in he DC area? I wonder if I should go to another doctor. I don't think I need surgery - and I don't want surgery - at this point. I just wanted to see if he had recommendations for how I could manage my dizziness and pain (which is new).

I dnt want to be a downer and this was just by experience with dr powers. He did my first surgery. He was a very nice guy but does not know enough about chiari IMO I have had two more surgeries for chiari done by dr heffez in Wisconsin because dr powers didn't due the first surgery correctly. This is only my opinion. I just thought u should no what I've gone thruogh with him

I'm going to see Dr. Powers in Rockville, MD on Jan 28th. I hope people still recommend going to him. I look forward to seeing what the doctor has to say!
Dr. Henderson doesn't show up as a provider on my insurance. I'm so bummed out!! I'm so close to Bethesda. That would have been perfect. :(
I have blue cross blue shield basic federal employee. I'm kinda tempted to call and see if he'll take me anyways.
Thanks so much for the names of the specialists. I'll look into them and see what comes up!
dr henderson is in bethesda, dr sansur is in baltimore, there is a female dr at john hopkins i've heard great things about.....wish i had know of these before i had my surgery as i went all the way to wisconsin!!! good luck!
Hey I'm in DC too doing the neurosurgeon shopping. I don't have one yet either but it seems as though we are in the right place to find a specialist. I'm leaning toward going to John's Hopkins University in Baltimore. Still don't know yet!
You are in the Chiari capital of the country. The Chiari Instiute is in New York. The Chiari malformation community has health links, and there is a list of NS's. You can also visit http://www.chiariinstitute.com/ for more information. There are more doctors out there than at this institute but it is a great start.
Thank you for the link. I am happy to have found this forum. Very informative. I'm sorry that we're all dealing with this (together), but it is great to know that I'm not alone!
Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.
Many NS's may say they can do chiari surgery, it does not make them a chiari specialist...we do have a list of drs names...this also does not infer they r all true chiari specialists or intended as a referral....but as a starting point to research the drs.
The list we have is compiled is of the members drs ...who they were treated by and liked...this still requires u to research the drs to find the right one for u.

We r happy to have u join us, but not happy for the reasons that bring u.
