Does anyone have a "bruised" feeling on spine where no actual bruise can be seen!

Hi, I'm Shannon, a 41 yo female from Oregon.

I've had a bruise-like tender spot on my lower spine for about 10 years, but in the last month or so that feeling has begun to spread upward. I have CM and syringomyelia in my cervical spine, but as of yet no MRI has been done to detect anything below that.

It’s really freaking me out!

On top of that, some weird new symptoms have started, such as hesitancy peeing, increased (nearly constant) libido when I've never had a high sex drive, legs going numb and feeling heavy and pain in my hips and low back very similar to the CM "cape" pain I have in my neck and shoulders.

I'm new to posting here, but lurk a lot as everyone's questions and answers are very helpful.

I'm just curious if your experience might offer a hint as to whether or not this is part of the CM/SM or if it is something new.

Thank you!

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

It is very possible that you have tethered cord, which can cause urinary issues as well as low back, leg and bowel issues.
I was DX'd with TCS before my Chiari was found and even scheduled for a cord release surgery.....but with more research and consulting my Drs decided the decompression surgery would yeild more benefits for me....and I agree.....I still have occasional issues due to my TCS DX....but 9 years post op I know they did the right procedure for me.

Thank you so much for your response. I've looked up TCS and my symptoms do seem to match.

One question if you don't mind. Does your TCS ever feel like your spine is a rubber band that is being pulled from both ends? That is kind of what I am experiencing.

Thanks again!

Yes, that is just what TCS is...instead of the cord being loose and hanging free it is attached so it pulls.....this can cause the cerebral tonsils to herniate even if Chiari is not present.....
Just a FYI- another term is occulta tetehered cord....meaning hidden....TCS does not always show on a MRI...so you need a well experienced Dr to recognize it.
I can't tell you how much I appreciate your help. Thank you. I will get on scheduling the lower spine MRI asap.
Keep me posted and good luck
